Verizon works pretty well all over the lake. My phone usually works best from the dam to well past dangling rope toward rainbow bridge. (They seem to work in the middle of most large bays) From the north end you can get reception from bullfrog past slip rock into the Rincon area. Theres only a about a 10-15 mile dead area in the middle next to the San Juan arm.

If you can see Navajo mountain, or Page (on the south end) you should get cell service. Last month we were in Warm Creek, tucked away in a small canyon, we couldn't get cell service at our site, but if we went out to the middle of the bay (where the city of Page is in view) we didn't have any problems at all. If you go into some of the side canyons with high canyon rock walls, you might not get service there.

To check the water levels go to this link:

The San Juan arm is pretty remote, I haven't been there for several years, I'm not sure how good cell service is up there.

I have Verizon and my reception is inconsistent at Lake Powell. We are usually at Bullfrog. There are pockets of reception nearer the marinas, poorer reception in the canyons. I imagine it is better closer to the dam.

We have Verizon,,the 'Network' seemed to come and go,,our bars fluctuated. Worked from mile marker 1 (dam area) up to mm 21 then it was hit and miss up to Dangling.

As most have stated, you can expect inconsistant reception.

I have verizon and just was up lake from Bullfrog. Service past Moki Canyon is real sketchy. In an emergency I think you could find signal with in a couple miles, but that's the only reason I would want service. When I'm on the lake, I'm on vacation.
My dad always said "Stupid Hurts". He's yet to be proven wrong, but for some reason I keep trying.

Wait what? Who knows me? I should be there right now, my work had to come first. My industry has had a huge shake up and all this change is going to create opportunity. I needed to be in my office planning with some of the other department heads. This is the first year I've missed in 15 years of going. LAME!!!

The Juan has horrible reception. Just like some of the other T.O.'s said, you have to be in a bay that has pretty good line of sight with a town. All the way up to rainbow bridge you can get a signal from Navajo mountain. Page is in cell phone line of sight for almost the entire bottom half of the lake. It's gotten better every year. Usually we have enough people on our houseboat to test every cell phone service provider. I was calling my brother yesterday on his verizon and it's not picking up, however his buddies AT&T/Cingular is picking up way back in Dungeon canyon (Mile 42). That's pretty strong, maybe AT&T has put a better cell tower on Navajo.

If you are in a canyon, if you climb up, you usually get a clearer signal. I have even been on a houseboat where I don't get a signal unless I went up on the roof. I am on Verizon.
