After 5 years the rubber starts to get brittle. On radials, the tread separates from the tire because the tire pattern actually puts sideways pressure on the tire so that it tracks better. If you're in hot weather, 5 years and they will start to go quickly. I'd check them for signs of cracking if you plan to wait. I ended up getting bias ply because I had to buy 2 in short order from Walmart. The only other place that sells them is Magnum, and they're so backed up you're lucky if you can get them to mount your tire in 4 weeks. What a PITA! I finally ended up buying tires there and getting them mounted elsewhere. You'd think one of the tire places would carry trailer tires

I'll just replace them next year. There is no signs of cracking last time I looked. They are just now 4 years old. If of course I get moved or something and have to haul it a long way again I'll do it before. Do you replace your spare as well? Mine has never seen any action.

The spare might last longer because it's not being used.

You're gonna wanna look closely at not just the tread, but also where the tread meets the sidewall as that is a big source of cracking as well. The problem is the extreme heat/sun exposure and the elements that trailer tires see regularly. I would look EXTRA closely at the spare as well b/c the last thing you want is to buy 4 new tires, have one go flat, toss on your spare and have a blow out becuase the rubber is super brittle from the elements. Where do you keep your spare? Is it mounted on the trailer?

thanks for the advice everyone. The tires never see sun except when driving, and the spare never sees the sun. I'll check it all out and see what I find. I'll probably just get 5 new tires, and keep two spares. Better safe then sorry.

I think he's got a cover on it, so that will help shield it from the sun.

I just replaced all four of my tires and ended up buying some new aluminum wheels since my steel wheels were starting to rust.

I wish...Can't make it this year...But I am planning on going to the cold water reunion but I don't think the entourage will make that trip. They don't like cold water
