    Naciemento?

Has anybody been to Naciemento lately. We're heading up there this weekend for a week long trip and I'm getting more and more concerned about the water levels. I keep on hearing about how low it is (40% capacity) but the people at the resort tell us it's fine, in fact they say "there's just more beaches now." I was hoping somebody may have been there recently and maybe you can give me the true scoop. Either way there's not much we can do about now, I guess I'd just like to know what I might be getting into???

have not been up there, but for the last month my friend that lives there says they are dropping the lake a foot a day, so you do the math. It's low, and the canyons are too low to go into I was told, but have not been there.

Yes I was up there on Sat.The lake is low but there is still lots of good water to be found. The morning is good around the coves and by the dam.Lately there has been a little wind in the afternoon. The best part is that everyone is hearing how low it is and it's keeping away the crowds. The only bad part is that they are using the low level ramp so there is a line--pretty much one at a time for launching.Don't forget it is our fair time in town.Take the famliy for a good time at the fair and head back to camp.Have fun!!be safe let me know how it all went.

Thanks for the info. When you say the water is low, are we talking so low that you can't pass in certain areas due to submerged objects etc or just lower than usual for that lake. I'm used to running on the river where dealing with 5'-10' of water is the norm. Makes navigating a little tricky, but we can get around it. I was just hoping to have less to worry about by being on a deep lake.

I haven't been up to Paso (or Naci) in 25+ years when my grandparents lived there-used to go to the fair every summer. Is it running through next week? We get there on the 5th.

          Stoneman,
Go to yahoo and type in Lake Nacimiento and then click on the web cam. It shows how much of the shore is exposed.

1.5 per week.... That is nice compared to Folsom Lake dropping nearly 3/4 of a foot a day.....

Our Scoutmaster just got back from San Antonio and was checking out Naci for an outing. He heard that Naci is at 33% and will be drained completely, until some resolution can be made for repairs to the dam. The lake is apparently privately owned and the dam needs work. Pine Flats is also being drained for repairs to the dam, but the Corps of Engineers is doing the work so it will be back for use once it refills. Piru is also going to be "lowered" for maintenance to the dam in a few weeks.

Just got back from Naci. It was 38% on Saturday. All in all I'd have to say that I won't be going back there anytime soon. Although there is still quite a bit of surface water, with the number of boats on the lake you end up on top of each other as almost everybody crowds into the same big coves. Good water was hard to find, except for early morning and late evening runs. The rest of the day was chop! Add the wind that kicks up every day at 3:30 exactly and blows for at least 2 hours and you get waves with white caps!

I won't even start with the issues we had at Oak Shores and their ridiculous rules regarding only 1 boat, 1 trailer, 1 car per rental house forcing me to leave my boat in a slip at Naci ($120 for the week) with my rig in the marinas dirt lot where the guy said I could leave it "no problem." Unfortunatley the ranger didn't see it that way and she charged me $150 for the week as I was leaving-that's $30 bucks a day for camping...I wasn't camping! My empty truck and trailer were just sitting in the lot!

Long drive (7 hours from SD), getting ripped off at the marina and so-so water...not really worth it! I guess I'll just stick with my place at the river.

OMG that sucks I. I think they are trying to squeeze every penny they can because the are getting shut down for dam repairs

Ever since Katrina every dirt dam in the US is getting fixed!!!

They are also draining Huntington on September 2nd or 3rd to 30% for repairs to the dam. Since it is the second lake in the whole chain of lakes and they are draining Pine Flats also I would bet they are going to hold a lot of water in Shaver and all those lakes in Between for the winter. That should mean they will be able to fill Pine Flats right back up when they are done. They have been keeping Shaver super low this year for the drain of of Huntington in September. I hope and pray we get a lot of snow this year in CA. If not next year will really suck. Maybe I will just need to buy some quads and dirt bikes if we don't start getting some water.

That could be TIGE's next step. Quads. JK
