    Awww Crap!

I've had knee troubles ever since i busted 'em both back in '86 courtesy of good old uncle sam and the army. Been back in the VA system five years now because they've been acting up. So they've been getting progressively worse to the point where i gave up damn near everything fun as they give out at times. Well my MRI Monday shows multiple tears in the left and contusions in the right along with arthritis in both. CRAP! Prognosis, major surgery on the left and orthoscopic on the right. CRAP & CRAP!

I told the doc no surgery until after September, got my boat priorities! Been living with for 20 years, what's two more months. The good part is my monthly uncle sam allotment gets bumped big time and i rise on the disability list. Hmmm ... a new boat may be in the picture next year!

Well It may be better to go ahead and have the surgeries now, they may be worse in September.

But right on with the new boat 21V? RZ2? 4?

I have bad knees, mine get bad in the winter, they'll pop in and out, I'll fall on my face somtimes, any idea what that could be?

Hope you make it through surgery and everything OK.

Well Razz I can feel your pain. Being a disabled veteran myself (only 10% but it is a start), the VA can be a total PITA experience. However, I also suffer from knee problems but not as bad as yours but I have found that Glucosamine, Vitamin C, and a Multi Purpose Vitamin in the diet does help (Okay, maybe some Motrin from time to time also). I started the pills about 5 years ago (the Marine Corps wasn't too good on my knees after three mile runs at least 3 times a week) and then stopped 6 months ago. I stopped because I didn't think it was working.... Well, WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! My knees feel terrible and the body seems to be breaking down the past 6 months much easier....

Bad Knees due to what? Did you injure yourself or just have osgoods slaughter disease? My OSD use to cause my legs to give out when I was in Jr High and it would be extremely painful at the point of insertion of the patella tendon. If you injured your self and you are getting a popping sound it could be 2 things a loose tendon slipping over the bone or torn cartilage but you might also experience a locking of the knee with that as well.

My guess it you will do the Ortho first let it recover which is about 4-6 weeks then go in and do the major which might be upwards of a year recover? I would be more worries about the arthritis than anything. That will cause you constant pain down the road. I hope all goes well when you get it done.

I can vouch for the VA and them attempting to scalp out the arthritis that develops!!! They also cut some more bone out of my wrist to make sure the arthritis didn't do that again also.

The VA did it for me since the arthritis was pinching the nerve ending which would cause my hand to become numb.

I'm not sure just sometimes in the winter it gets hard to stand up bucause my knees will be stiff and somtimes the'll pop out, I don't ever remember hurting them

And its not extremely painful either, just a little

Thanks guys, who knows what'll happen. 20 years ago they wanted to replace both knees. They gave me the option, replacement or medical discharge. Took the discharge.

DA; if your having service related knee issues them contact the local VA rep and get conntected back to service. That way you can check it out and possibly get bumped on the disability list like it did, from 10 to 40%. Now i'm getting bumped again as the arthritis is considered a debilitating malady and good for another 10-20% plus whatever they give me again for the knees. Right now i get $600 a month from 'em, another 20-30 bumps me to 1000-1200, check 'em out!

thanks, but I never complained about my knees during service nor did I have any issues while in the service with them. I only get a little over $100 per month but some is better than none IMO. And the wrist isn't that bad anymore since they removed some bone along with the arthritis but maybe in a year or two, I'll start complaining again since I am taking Motrin like it candy again.... Wish you luck.

                        Razz,
Don't sweat having surgery, your be 90-95% 6 months after the surgery. I've had five knee surgeries and I can still ski bumps and air it out all day.(2 ACL's, 2 meniscus removals, and another scare tissue removal surgery) If you need any suggestions for a good doc, I'll be happy to get you an appointment at Steadman Hawkins out here in Denver. I live in the knee surgery capital of the world, Steadman's is where all the pro athletes are sent. You'll be all set for next summer if you have the surgery early in the fall. I planned all my surgeries so they didn't interfer with my ski season, your not a psycho for thinking about your summer.

                          Razzman,
May I suggest you switch to Hydrofoiling over the summer. That way you can still be on the water and won't do anymore damage to your knees.

I switched over one summer about 12 years ago and never went back to wakeboarding.
