From that document it says that the stock boat at wakesurfing speed put out 17ppm and the WHO recommendations are:

        100 mg/m3 (87 ppm) for 15 minutes
        60 mg/m3 (52 ppm) for 30 minutes
        30 mg/m3 (26 ppm) for 1 hour
        10 mg/m3 (9 ppm) for 8 hours

With a stock boat, I don't see how many people are going to be dying IF it's in proper running condition.

That's true, but those are levels you don't want to even come close to. Keep in mind that lower levels of CO will still have an impact, even if they are not considered dangerous. Add to that, lots of sun, heat and the occasional beer, that's a lot of stress on your body. Especially if you do this on a regular basis.

The question you have to ask yourself is do you want to feel better at the end of the day. Several members have commented about the fact that they feel better at the end of the day. My guess is that it's not the riding that's dangerous, but the "station-wagon" effect for those riding in the back of the boat. Regardless, I'm glad I installed mine.

But, the sport is as safe as any watersport, regardless of whether or not you have an FAE.

Actually those levels are safe, there is another thing in there saying that it's safe to work an 8 hour shift being exposed to 35 ppm. I think the real danger are the houseboats and cabin cruisers that are 100+ppm, that sounds like a dangerous level.

We rarely surf for more than 2 hours in a row and with all n00bs on board at surfing we do a lot of crashes/pickups/ turning the boat on and off.

The FAE is nice but right now we are enjoying the beautiful sound that 340hp exudes from the tailpipes! Our old I/O didn't have any cool noise coming out of it.

If I remember right, from the doc's I read before purchasing my FAE this Spring, those numbers came from a Carbureted Nautique. An ECM controlled FI engine will produce far fewer ppm co's. I would like to see this test run again with a current model boat w/ & w/o the FAE.

Amen brotha!! The FAE simply makes it a lot safer, and at the very least more comfortable at the end of the day.

This will get old when you start listening to tunes or try having a conversation with your rider. But, I know what you mean. The sound from my Tige when I first got it made me feel like it had enormous power...you could literally feel it.

I was in Minneapolis this week for work. I saw that at the air while waiting for the red eye home. You should of heard all the people some of us who are boaters were laughing and more of the people were saying oh look how dangerous. I found myself defending wake surfing. I was thinking of jledger and felt for him since he lives there. THIS IS PI$$ Poor reporting. Lets all go to MN and go surfing and invite this reporter out with his cameras and staff to maybe catch one of us passing out. . better yet lets put him behind the boat.

                        HA!

You shoulda let me know, we were out twice this week. I sent the guy an email (posted earlier in this thread). At the end I told him he's welcome on my boat any time.

My wife works at a competing station here and she's going to try to get a "more balanced" story done maybe next week.

Ya let us know if she gets it done. I know a news anchor here in CA. I should see if he wants to do a story here about it. We also have a friend who goes out with us who is an ER Doc. We could have him interviewed. Maybe I could get that put together and post it. Just an idea.
