Has anybody seen this on their boat?

My steering wheel will turn all the way to the left and then stop. However, if I turn it all the way to the right after it hits the normal stopping point, I can continue to turn the wheel. Any suggestions on what is going on and how to fix it?

Maybe you're missing a few teeth at the steering wheel end of your steering cable?

That sounds just about right... Get a new cable, But its not a big problem so wait until the one you have goes bad.

Replace the cable or get it checked out! If a tooth is missing, one day the next tooth will break off and you will be out on the water with a boat that only turns hard to the right! Have you ever thought about how you would get a boat back to the dock that will only turn hard to the right.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that it is a missing teeth since I can make several revolutions of the steering wheel with no problems. However, I guess it is possible that it reaches an area where a missing tooth may affect it. I will just take the back plate off of the steering wheel and see what I can find.

Is this a rack and pinion type steering we are talking about?

I would unbolt the cable rack at the back of the steering wheel and check for broken teeth. I just changed my cable a few weeks ago. It's only 4 bolts that are real easy to get to. It would probably only take about 10 minutes to find out where you stand.
