    Just a warning for all....
we use it for email and its slowest thing on this computer.... I bet if we got rid of it our computer would be 100x faster but I cant get my parent to get rid of it.

And you can check it on AOL.com anyway so you dont need the program..

Do you have a problem spelling? What about history?

Don't answer, I already know that you have read and know what I am referring to.

You can also boot to a utility disc, rewrite the SAM for the admin account and you're in that way, on local accessed machines anyway.

If you are using the "Welcome" screen, you are not going to be able to log in as admin. You need to log in using the built in windows admin account. At the welcome screen press <ctrl>+<alt>+<del> a couple of times and a prompt will open allowing you to type in your username and password. Try administrator with a blank password. If that doesn't work and you need to reset the admin password, download the image from
          http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
boot to that, and rewrite the password for the admin account in the SAM. He has step by step instructions on how to use the tool.

Since he has Windows Media Center, (SP, let me know if I am wrong but this is what I remember) he could go into Safe Mode with Network Connection. This will allow him to go onto the internet still in Admin mode and install the software. Since Windows Media Center Ed does not need a password when going into Safe mode (unlike Windows XP pro), he can do it but I would have to do more checking at home regarding this.

My only question is why isn't his father installing the spell checker? I think there is more to this part..... hummmmmmmm

I don't think I have ever booted Media Center in safe mode, but I would assume you still need to use a user/pass. That seems like a huge security issue if not.

As far as his father not dong it, I know when I was a teen, I knew more about computers than anyone relative to me, so I did whatever I wanted, plus knowing how to rewrite local access files is pretty cool. It has helped me fix comps for others numerous times in the past. In fact, if my dad told me he wouldn't do something, I would see it as a challenge. Of course the only removable media we had was 5-1/4 floppies and tape drives, and almost all the coding I was doing was in BASIC, so there wasn't really anything like a user account. I was lucky enough to have a father that knew we needed to be into sand and circuitry when I was young, so we always had computers of some sort to play with. First one was a C-64 (with a black/white tv for a monitor), then on to 286, 486, and finally the pentium classes; just had to make sure I had the cattle watered and the hogs slopped before I came in to play.

Isn't there something called a paper back dictionary? I am sure you could install that next to your computer.
If its not fun, Why do it?

When I was at Tandy, we were messing around with the Radio Shack Color Computers. Someone had developed an OS for it called OS/9, which was a Unix derivative. We got the CoCo running multi-user....talk about a geek fest.

So, is this enough proof that we can't help the dude out and that this thread was heading down the list after the first posting?

This thread is going no where and we already found out problem. So, arguably, this entire thread is up for hijacking since we found the problem.

Ok, so when has that ever stopped any further posts from coming in and how does that make this thread any different than 90% of the other threads?
