need a service manurl for 2000 21v any help

I've heard there are no service manuals produced for our boats - maybe something for the Mercury Marine engine from Mercury. Our boat is the same model as yours. Is there anything specific I might be able to help with - pics, circuit routing, etc.?

If yours has the Mercruiser 350 Mag MPI there should be a fuel/water seperating filter in a plastic housing at the front right corner of the engine (toward left rear corner of boat). I had to loosen the fuel tank hose panel and pull the left rear panel, side panel and bottom rail out to get the filter housing cover off. There's a push tab to release a catch on it. The filter is a standard marine type water seperating filter. I get mine at Walmart.

However, this may not be your hot soak starting problem. What engine do you have - carb or injection? Are you getting a spark when cranking when it's hot? What's the voltage to the module when cranking? Normally the voltage will drop to around 9v when cranking, but if the starter is old it may draw more and thus the module may not fire (needs 9v). When I've had hot start problems in my cars it's been the starter going or starter cables are old increasing resistance and lowering the voltage. A new starter and/or larger cables fixed the problem. Another possibility, I had one car with a carb that had a metal tube from the pump to the carb that would get really hot and vaporize fuel in it. Replaced the metal tube with a hose and the problem went away.

Someone else had the same problem on this board. I replaced my plug wires at 400 hrs upon the recommendation of my dealer. They told me that the wires will develop hot spots and cause the engine to misfire. So that's one possibility.

It could be a fuel starvation issue as mentioned previously. Otherwise, check distributor cap and plugs.

If it is a Mercruiser engine you can purchase them here.

I just got a manual for my 350 MAG MPI from Mercruiser. There is not really any useful info in the manual that you can't find on the net at the merc website. What I was really after was oil capacity of the motor, and the manual didn't contain this information. I was pretty dissapointed in the $30 I essentially wasted, for information that I could have got free off the net. So be careful prior to buying any manual.

BTW, my boat is a year older than yours and I recently had to replace my alternator. It presented with many of the same symptoms before it finally gave up the ghost. Just an FYI.

There's a problem with that year model where there may not be enough power running to the gauges because they are daisy-chained. Do you have PerfectPass installed in your dash or some other accessory? The push connectors may not always be making contact. Try pulling each one and reseating it.

Last time my taps stopped, it was cause there was a loose wire on the alternator and the batteries ran down
