When I got my tower, I removed my telescopic pylon. Unfortunately, the stainless pylon fused with that mount (made of cast iron). I had to take it to a local machine/weld shop to have them cut it out from the inside. Quite a production. But, I'm glad it's there so when I pull tubers (oh, did I just say that), there's no worries about the pylon failing. I think you could actually suspend the boat from the pylon mount.
