Blew an eardrum last year. Started wearing the helmet this year (not just for the ears).

I have the Pro Tec Ace Wake, and I forget it's on (very light). Only downside is not being able to hear the tower speakers as well. May need to look into a waterproof MP3 player.

I got one for the kids as well.

There should be a new category..

"I always wear helmets and I do tricks"

I'm betting most of the "I never wear a helmet", "I never thought about it" or "Helmets are for babies" people just "ride".

CP3 what inverts are you throwing?
If you ain't falling.. you ain't trying hard enough..

I ride and don't do all those arial stunts that some do. Just too old and want to live so I can become a burden to my children one day (payback is hell).

No, I don't but have thought about it since we have already had one concussion on the boat with one of the children.

It has saved me quite a few times in the last month since I got it. The worst fall I have had was one when I wasn't even trying anything crazy on.. just one of those wierd times when you accidentally fall.

I think they are a good idea when people are more agressive at boarding. I just go out there a do a few tricks that take no effort and I'm done. Too old to be during tricks that will hurt. Have a family to take care of first then boating next. It's all about the priorities...... Mine are a little different than some, I am sure. However, the children are starting to go balls to the wall...... This season is okay without it but next season, it will be a must have.....

I think you have to really get worked a few times before wearing a helmet makes sense. For me it was the ruptured eardrum (twice) and a torn retina that sealed the deal. I've also got a scar on my forehead from getting chased down by the board while I was in the water after a crash (I like it, but hope none of the females in our crew ever have this happen).

I don't think I've had a crash in several seasons that would have done major damage to my melon, but I'm not comfortable getting inverted w/o it, so I always wear it now.

Some riders will never have the type of fall that will do significant damage (better luck than management, I think) - others will have it in their next sesh...

Continued luck and injury free riding!

I've never seen anyone wearing a helmet. Not that its bad, but frankly we hardly wakeboard anymore, its almost all surfing now a days.

Interesting responses. The worst falls I see are guys who are beginning level riders just trying to make it wake to wake who don't quite have a feel for when to try and save yourself, and when to let it go.

I hear people often say they only wear it when going out hard, or trying new tricks, but I think that those freak moments can catch you anytime. Concussion = loss of brain cells. I need every one I can keep. They will die off fast enough on their own.

Is anyone going to call me out on my Lake Powell thread because I forgot the helmet? It was late and we were 20+miles from the marina, I forgot the helmet. I felt naked...in a bad sort of way.
                              Be excellent to one another.
