    malibu owner looking at 21i

    Hi all,

I currently am a Malibu owner (third one), and am seriously looking at a 21i. My current boat is the Vride. I was looking at Respnses at the time, but when my wife saw the Vdrive seating, she fell in love with it, and I was a marshmallow. I figured it was about time she had a boat she wanted, eh?? But, after a few years, it is time to get a boat that has the engine sitting in the middle of the boat where it belongs!

We are skiers at heart, but we do wakeboard frequently. I am hoping some of you folks can shed a little light on the performance of the 21i for me. Mainly, how does she ski compared to Malibu and Mastercraft direct drive?

Any input will be greatly appreciated, and hopefully I can provide my input to this forum from the perspective of a Tige owner in the near future.....

    Thanks

Welcome to the site Staypuff J/K, If your dealer has one, they should be more than happy to take you guys out for a test drive and a pull.

I was fallowing behind our dealer's 22i (I know you're looking 21i) a couple of weeks ago and compared the wake to that of my 22Ve, which I have skied behind and love it, and it was noticeably (only by a little) smaller, cleaner and softer looking.

Get out in one and I know you will be overall impressed with a Tige.

I agree w/ what chpthril said.

When we first test drove an '06 22Ve I was a little dissapointed at the size of the ski wake.. but I was coming from a '95 Tige Tournament Ski Boat (20.5' direct drive)that had basically NO wake.

All I can say is go out and test one because when I skied behind my 22Ve for the first time I was very impressed with how soft the ski wake is and how much fun it is to ski behind. Go on a test drive/test ski, you will not be dissapointed!

That is one thing I have always heard that tiges wakes are soft until you add ballast

This is very true. The ski wake behind my 22Ve (w/ no ballast of course) is very soft but the wakeboarding wake w/ full ballast is hard and really throws you into the air! I love the versatility of my boat!

            T Rock.

I have a 20i and ski. The wake is faint and soft. I test road behind a prostar 197 and the wake on the 20i to me was the same. The best thing about the Tige is that I can ski then my daughter jumps in and she has a good size wake to wakeboard on. We even surf behind or 20i with no ballast.

I will agree with the consensus here. I have a 20i, and with TAPS at 1, the faint wake makes for great skiing. And if you wanna board, the TAPS set at 7 makes a decent sized wake that will provide lots of fun. The larger you go as far as boat size, the bigger overall wake, so I think you'd have a great boat in a 21 footer for skiing.

                Welcome!

i think you will love the 21i for what you need/want take the time to drive/ski one it is really the only way. the 21i offers a great slalom wake and an solid wakeboard wake. and goes between both in a matter of seconds. the handling/ride/fuel ecom. are unmatched IMO. take one for a spin you will love it!! PS. where you from?

We ride a 21i at 55ft. taps @ 3-4 massive wakes....and it justs gets bigger with the taps up and or weight.

Mainly, how does she ski compared to Malibu and Mastercraft direct drive? The ski wake is descent, Its wider, and a little choppy. It looks real rough but at higher speeds it really start to flatten out. The older model 21i's are better ski boats from what I have heard.

The 21i In my opinion is a good crossover boat, Good for wakeboarding, good for skiing, and good for whatever else. For us, a bunch of beginning wakeboarders, the wakeboard wake is more then enough. With a few friends you can have a great wake. For skiing like I said its a little rough but at the higher speeds it really flattens out.

ya I'm pretty sure he is talking about wakeboarding.. I don't think that it could be classified as "massive" w/ the taps at 3-4 at 55'. well maybe for a "wannabe"

Yes, we have a cabin on Table Rock, way down by Eagle Rock. After trailering all over the midwest, we finally found a place to call home on the lake. Couldn't be happier. I remember the first day we spent there, calm water all day long, then two barefooters made runs right in front of our cabin at dusk.... Last time we went down there was a slalom course right across the lake from our place.

I must say, I really appreciate all the input from everybody. The real test of a boat (besides getting behind one) is the opinion of current owners. I really think that the 21i is the boat for us after reading all your posts. The ability to ski and wakeboard behind one boat without having to pump water is great.
