they're asking 33,900 for it. Lariat F250 FX4 with wood grain dash, 20s, nitto all-terrains, and a custom exhaust. 46k on the odometer.

Ford has been all over the place recent years. 7.4L,6.0L and now a new 6.3 or something like that. It does not inspire my confidence.
Watch out with all the fords, esp the 6.0 my bro is having really bad luck with his.

They're all also running 5 or 6 speed transmissions. Dodge is running a 5-speed heavy duty eaton trans, while the new allison tranny is a 6-speed auto. Ford's torqueshift is now a 5-speed auto. Oh-the other sweet thing about the new dodge/cummins combo is that the jake brake (exhaust brake) is now standard with the 6.7L turbodiesel.

I'm looking at an '05 Ford F250 on monday... found what appears to be a good deal on one with only 46k on it.

The other thing about diesels is that when maintained properly, you can put upwards of 200k on them.
I would hope you get more then 200K on a diesel. That's just getting broke in. Heck I have 200 on my gas sipper. Diesels should run for a million miles if you maintain them correctly.

The other thing I dont' get is my diesel doesn't even register on the smog check, yet they want to restirct them. I just don't get it.

What's a good deal in your area? A good deal in my area would be < $30k, most of them are $31k + for '05s.
My bro got is 05 for 28 with 10K miles.

03 was the first year for Fords 6.0 and yes they had a lot of problems with them and the 04's but they got all the kinks out by 05. 05 thru 07 are pretty bulletproof.

It's funny, no matter what diesel truck you bring up, someone knows someone who has/had one and it's always in the shop. I brought up a Duramax to my buddy who has an '04 Super Duty (seriously been in the shop 10+ times) and he tells me "oh don't get a Duramax, those things have major problems". LOL, look who's talkin! So then I was looking at a Dodge (don't really like them but they are cheap!) and someone else tells me, don't get one they are always in the shop. So which diesel truck isn't in the shop? NONE to hear everyone else tell it!

yeah, it's a toss up. I mean i have had zero problems with my 7.3 and my bro just keeps having injector problems. He has gone through I think it's 16 now. That and his turbo went out.

It's true we all know one or two. I like my ford, won't touch the new one's, and will probably go with the new dodge, just because they have been around the longest. I'm just waiting to see if they come out with the new half ton diesels. I'll be buying one of those for sure. But right now I can't justify a new truck as I only use it to tow, and it does that just fine.

I have noticed that there are a lot of '05 Super Duty's on the market, FWIW. That's what I was looking at but have since decided that I want a warranty and don't want an aftermarket warranty with a diesel so I will probably have to go new which means that my Corvette will most likely have to go...<sigh>.

Most domestic vehicles can be bought used with a factory warranty if you get it from the dealer.

most vehicles now the factory warranty transfers with the vehicle, his did, as he bought it from an individual.

That is what I was thinking when I bought my 05 Excursion with the 6.0. So far it has been terrific. But my neighbor with the same engine had an injector go out and left his wife stranded. So I guess they are not problem free.

Now when Toyota steps into the diesel market...watch out! I suspect they won't design an engine that is prone to so many failures.
