Peeks of the underwater "mountain" are in red. As you can see, there really isn't any way to tell unless you know. Before Folsom Lake was built, this fork was the American River and that is why there is a mountain in the "middle" of the fork.

They should blow it up.... How many boats a year hit that thing.... when the water is low of course
Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity. Albert Einstein

Yes, it is marked. I was just trying to state a point to Dom that not everything can be seen from the terrain around the lake.

i understand your point da.bell. Like i was saying I'm not familiar with canyon lakes. the lakes I was raised in, you can 99% read the lake bottoms from the shoreline, and after this last year with the lakes being down 20-50 feet,I confirmed my theory with 100% accuracy, for OK that is.

The peeks are at the ends of the ridgeline. The middle is not as high but I will take pictures of it this weekend and again in August when the water is 75 feet lower than that picture.... It isn't good.....

That is why I said 95% of what you see can been seen the way you are saying. It's that damn 5% that will destroy your boat in a heart beat if you don't look.

yeah for sure, that's why I'm CONSTANTLY looking at the depth gauge, if it gets under 10 feet, i'm turning around, esp if it's a lake I don't know.

I need to take you out on a lake and teach you about reading the lake that and your depth gauge are your two best friends. I'm sure you can figure out the reading of the lake, just read the coast line, what does it look like, is it a sharp drop, or a gradual decent. are there trees on the shore, or rocks, etc etc, you can really figure out the bottom quite a bit by doing this. That and there are so many boats on the water now adays, that all the stuff that is there, probably is destroyed by other idiots.

Domsz06 when I was younger my family spent many summers on Lake Powell growing up. I can for the most part read the lakes. You can not survive on a 28' cabin cruiser on Lake Powell unless you really pay attention. Lake BV is an exception to reading water colors. It is just a big mud hole. So you really have to rely on the markers. They have it all marked out now since they have changed the lake around. Soon it just might be a dirt bike park and all dried up anyways. So from my experiences at Lake Powell as a kid I have learned it never hurts to ask those who have been on the lakes for tips before going. This way you are not all tense and worried because you do not know the lake and you have some information about it. It is all good though and I never quit learning so I will take any advise or help I can get. I figure when I know all the things I need to know regardless of what kind of shape I am in I will have a heart attach and kill over. Then my avatar will have to be retired. I hope that is in about 50 years.
