    Burnin oil

So Im confused. If the dip stick is in one way it reads a little low. Then the other way it reads higher. Isn't the dip stick the same size?

Check the good old oil today and it read low. It was on the add line. I just topped off last week. I have put like 20 hours in the last week. but should it be going so quick?

and whats the deal with the dip stick reading different depending on which way its in?

can someone tell me.. Is the (add) lettering supposed to face the engine or face away from the engine while in? The techs at the dealership couldn't even tell me. He said to check it on the water. I did by the way. I see no difference if it was in the water or out. It reads the same, so Im callin on that. So which way is correct? If I do it the other way and its reading higher, then I may not have enough in. The other way and its to low.....I and there is to much.

Tigeblue, generally the dipstick inserts with the handle writing up (if handle) or the finger loop (if loop) facong down. As for your oil consumption. how many hours are on the engine? I see it's an '07, some engines when new will burn a bit of oil until seated. In some cases however a ring may not seat correctly, a valve guide or valve seal may not seat or been installed correctly. And while rare these days it does happen unfortunately. Do you see smoke when starting or driving?

I agree with Razz...another way of saying it is that the handle or loop goes away form the center of the engine or to the outside of the engine. The dipsticks sometimes are bent or curved and depending upon which way it is in there it could read different. The only way to know for sure is to drain the oil (completely..sometimes dipstick pumps don't get it all) and refill it. then check and see where it is on the dipstick.. Of course boat angle can make a difference in what reads. Hope this helps. It is rare but we have seen some of them burn a little oil when new. I would keep track of it and discuss it with the dealer, and have it dealt with this winter. Use the boat while the sun shines!

Razz, I am sure he has 50+ hours on that boat already. The oil should have stopped burning by now.....

nope, no smoke at all. Im sure it may be normal. But I just noticed it was going down allot faster than normal. I called the Tige rep and he is going to call one of their engine guys.

The dip stick does read different. I don't want to drain the oil just yet. but the next time do I will check to see where it reads.

I just bliked over 80 hours yesterday. At this rate I will need a new boat come next summer! Then again I will be married by then so maybe not
