    Flaming Gorge, anyone been there?

We are interested in possibly going to Flaming Gorge (Utah or Wyoming). Has anyone on here been there and if so, is it worth the 400 mile drive for us? It looks beautiful in the pictures that we are seeing. Just thought I would get some opinions from people who have been there or live near there.

    Thanks!

I've been maybe 8 times and always had a great time. We went a few years over Labor day and it seemed cold and rainy each time that time of year. I have stayed near the dam at Mustang ridge and that is a great site. I have also stayed in the group area close to Manila not as scenic, but good water and great times had in both areas. The Flaming Gorge that the lake is named after is a must see, pictures don't do it justice.
My dad always said "Stupid Hurts". He's yet to be proven wrong, but for some reason I keep trying.

Yes, it is worth the 400 mile trip. The water is very nice right now, not too cold. Take a day while you are there and raft down the river. The rapids are further down, so it is more of a calm float.

How rough does it get down there? Did you guys rent a houseboat and pull your boat or stay in a cabin? Looks like lots of coves for wakeboarding/skiing, is that the case?

        Thanks for responding!

          Timmy,

Had a friend that went there last year. He loved it. He wants me to go this year and bring my boat. 400 miles to me is along way to pull a boat.

I have been there, but not since owning my Tige.

            It is beautiful.

I can't help but worry that you will say, it is like Lake Powell, just a lot further, colder and without the good weather.
            Be excellent to one another.

I've never been to Lake Powell but I think Flaming Gorge is a little closer to me than Powell but I'm not exactly sure where you go into Powell or Flaming Gorge at.

Denver to Flaming Gorge is 425 mi and Denver to Lake Powell is 475.

Flaming Gorge sucks, don't go there. Go to Powell. Just kidding, the Gorge is my favorite place. It's only 2.5 hours for me, so not too bad of a trip. One thing to consider for that length of drive is the weather. Plan on afternoon thunderstorms on most days.
