what are the flaps on the exaust for?

you can take them off, but then you run the risk of water going up and into the engine. They are there to stop the flow of water into your engine. We all know that water seaks the same level it's at, well so if your at rest water will never enter the engine, but if you were to say be drifting in reverse or kill the engine and your rollars were to come towards you therotically (Sorry I know it's misspelled) it could enter your engine.
