When you stop, how do you stop to pick up a downed wakeboarder, skier or surfer?
If you do it just like you said you will have huge rollars. Everytime I stop after a downed skier, I stop, let the wake pass me and then turn and idle to the boarder.
If there are big waves still in the lake (not sure you would be wakeboarding then if you are) you can idle a bit faster, with your taps at 7 and your nose will be a mile out of the waterhttp://wake9.com/

ok, no your so right, there are times you have to get back in a hurry, not arguing that one.
Ok, well I guess I still don't get it. Unless when it's dead out and you can wait to turn around if your turning too fast, before the wake passes you you will get the nose everytime.Originally posted by G-MONEYIt hurts me to say it but go OU but only for this weekend!!!!

I have a 2004 21i I've never been able to get rollers over the bow. I've tried because my wife did and I was puzzled. I couldn't figure out how she did it. I've asked her to repeat it and she can't either.
Don't get me wrong I can get passengers wet if i want to but I've never gotten a roller over the bow. I think my wife was just drivin' like a woman

For the most part, if you are used to an inboard, with a dropped bow, you drive different, and don't notice so much. Some of us, coming from cruisers and runabouts, I think it takes you by surprise. And I think, the 24Ve, may have a different hull, where it does make it more prominent. I will take a video, and show you.
Now, here is the thing, though. My 220, and my 190, at wakeboarding speeds was very dangerous. You couldn't see over the bow. Also, if you didn't want a completely washed out wake, you had to trim up, and it brought the bow higher. And you can't stand up, cuz at 22 mph, the boat won't stay the same speed, so you have to sit to constantly adjust throttle. I almost ran over a couple of small fishing boats last season.
With the 24 Ve, I can sit, and see over the bow, without even using the bolster seat. Granted I am 6'2". But I can see everything. My 11 yr old son has to use the bolster seat when he helps me pull for surfing. Then you add the SpeedSet, and I will say the 24Ve is hands down safer than my runabouts doing these kinds of activities.
For me, there is a tradeoff, but the very little I have to do to avoid bow water, is a very minor thing for all the benefits. But I would think twice if I was on a busy lake that got white capped all the time due to traffic or wind. I dealt with that for years, and I am done with that.http://wake9.com/

ragboy, i'm willing to bet after a year of driving you will never take rollers over and you won't even notice yourself driving to avoid them.
I have not had anything different besides an inboard. Had an outboard for one summer, then went to the TigéOriginally posted by G-MONEYIt hurts me to say it but go OU but only for this weekend!!!!

WOW!!!
I can't tell you how surprised I am to see your post!! I was planning on coming down to the big lake Saturday or Sunday for the annual Bike Week cruise and looking for you..
I am tempted to try to disuade you from bailing on your boat so soon. I have spent plenty of time on Winn, and I know exactly how those busy weekends can be. But honestly, I think that you are going to get hosed by selling it so soon.
There are so many places to go where you can get away from those 'cruisers' and enjoy the lake. There are tons of coves, bays, little corners of the lake to go.... But I sense that is not what you are looking for right now....
So...My advice is to either have Peter sell your boat for you, and suck up the loss....
Or buy a trailer for it and spend some time marketing it on the usual websites...Ebay, Craigslist, Boattrader, etc. I can tell you that I have had great success with Ebay, but also tons of aggravation!!! YMMV
Selling that boat without a trailer is going to be tough.. At least if Peter sells it for you, he can market it to some of his customers around the lake. But it will cost you, no doubt! Peter used to ask for 20% to sell a consignment boat, so 10% is not that bad. You could try to talk to him and see if he can get you a certain amount, say you need 57k, and he can market it however he wants to get you your 57K. I think that is kinda high with no trailer though.
Every boat, car, truck, etc loses up to 25% of its value when you drive it off the lot. When you are spending 60k for a boat, most people would rather buy brand new instead of saving a few thousand. That makes it really tough.
But you already know all of this.
I can't help but think that you may be jumping the gun... I have spend tons of time on that Lake, with my 22i, my old pre2002, and even my 17ft Starcraft. Sometimes you take some water over the bow...Thats why there is a bilge pump, right? Thats really part of boating.
I really believe that if you spend some time out there, you will find that you never even notice the rollers, it just takes time.
As far as anchoring.....there are a million places to go and hide, coves, the back side of islands, bays, etc.
Good Luck, I am very sorry about your decision. I hope you give it some time though, you may save yourself thousands of dollars by just giving it some time.

as far as anchoring if you anchor right, ie 4 run to 1 deep you shouldn't ever have a rollar over your bow. Just my :.02:
I know that people ask me how I don't have rollars over my bow when anchored, and I ask how much line they have out, they say 10 feet, I say, "Here's your sign"Originally posted by G-MONEYIt hurts me to say it but go OU but only for this weekend!!!!

I know I am beating a dead horse, but I can't help it...
Here is my 98 pre2002....
The first time we went on Winnipesaukee with my girls, it was like a death cruise!!! The rollers were huge, and we took on some water no doubt...But I got my girls ( I think they were 6 and 8 at the time) to suck it up, and now the LOVE the big waves!!
They always tell me, "Hit 'em fast Dad!" Several times we launched that thing out of the water to where I had to throttle back to keep from spinning the motor!! (Sorry William Sims, the guy who bought my boat)
Never had a problem, the bilge pump worked, no worries. I am sure with that 24Ve, you will get used to it before Labor Day!
I hate to see you lose on that awesome boat, please think about it.Last edited by Seanmcd; 09-29-2009, 01:28 AM.
