    Double sided tape

So I think I finally decided on where I'm going to mount my Satellite antenna. I'm going to unbolt the front tower leg on the port side of the boat and snake the wire underneath. I need a good adhesive double sided tape or velcro that is going to withstand the LV heat, any suggestions?

Evil, go to an auto parts and get some 3M molding tape. It's the same stuff the factory uses when they stick the side molding on your car. It's super thin and super sticky and won't come easily.

Where are you using this tape?
If it is inside the gunwale, it will not stay ( to rough for tape)
Tige, it's a way of life!

Evil, I would shoot over to the shop and talk to Russ and the new guy Tony to see what they would suggest.

If you sand the area lightly with 260 grit and vigorously rub it down with rubbing alcohol it will smooth the suface inside the gunnel nicely and tape will stick no problem. I've done it a few times and hasn't come off yet.

What I did was run the wire up the tower like a speaker wire and have it come out by one of the board racks. I got some 3M heavy duty velcro with tape on the back side and put one side on the back of the antenna and the other on the tower. I used the small micro antenna. I have had it up there for 3 years now and it has never come off.

not to jack this thread, but is there any adhesive/tape out there that will stick to the inside of the hull? I want to mount my charger there, but dont' want to attach it with screws.

That's a pretty heavy piece Dom, i'm not sure tape would hold it with all the jarring around and stuff. What might work is if you use industrial velcro and completely cover the back of it. That stuff is unbelievable (the industrial) and doesn't let go easily. If you were to do that and also have a heavy duty velcro strap going over the top that should hold it good and allow you to remove it as well.

i think i'll try that. The charger is pretty light really, I think I'll try the velcro. Can you get the industrial stuff at walmart? or where should I try?

I found some at Home Depot that comes in strips, i used that for attaching various stuff under the bow and gunnels and it hasn't moved yet! Lowes & Orchard Supply might have it too! Make sure to rub down anything you attach it to with rubbing alcohol of at least 70%. It almost reactivates the resin and makes a great bonding suface.

ok, gotta get velcro and rubbing alcohol, good deal. I'l check home depot, since it's 2 blocks from my house. I'll mess with later, wanna get everything wired first, then worry about keeping the batteries charged.

                        It's the 3M white stuff.
If you later find you need to remove it a blow dryer or a heat shrink gun used smartly will do the trick.
Autoparts store usually have it if ya can't find it elsewhere.

ok, good deal. Thanks all, i'll give it a wirl! I hope it works, as that place would be the trickest place for it, close to all banks, and out of the way, dry and a place for the plug is very easy to obtain.

If AN can't get you the cutters you can use a cutoff wheel on a die grinder or such. It'll work nice and make nice cuts.
