    Factory Ballast Wake Pics

Finally got a few pics of the surf wake behind our new '07 22Ve. Only got a couple decent shots since I was driving I wasn't snappin' the pics. I was really impressed with the size and shape of the "darkside" wake behind our boat. These pics are w/ the the starboard side ballast full and 5 guys inside on starboard side. We had the speedset set at 11.2 and TAPS at 6 for these pics. There was a pretty gnarly curl about 20 feet back. I'll get some more pics when I can.

That looks a nice. What happened when you set the TAPS to 4 or 5. Looks a little white washy on the lip but not that bad....

This was the first run of the day. I was trying to teach my mom how to surf w/out the rope so I had the taps set higher so she could "feel" the pocket a little better to know when she was in or out of it. She was able to drop the rope on her 3rd try. She surfed a few times behind our '95 Tige but could never drop it so she was SUPER excited. Grinning from ear to ear!

By the end of the day we got the speed/TAPS figured out and I was going at 11.6 w/ the taps at 4.5 and it was very clean. The only problem is the camera died by then... The wake was really good w/ the TAPS at 4-5.. very clean and rampy. I actually might have gotten a tiny bit of air w/ that big slow 5'6" Broadcast... I need a faster board tho...

Surfdad will help you out with the board as you well know. That sucks that the camera died on you.... Just when you are having fun the dang thing dies. Isn't that one of Murphy's Laws???? However, the wake looks really nice and I wish I had bought my boat with the ballasts.. Didn't have the option since the boat was already made and delivered to the dealer when I bought it.....

I just remembered... this was without any weight up in the bow. At that time the starboard forward pump for the ballast was getting vapor locked and wasn't filling the front sac. I figured out later that idling when turning the pumps on helped them not get vapor locked. But the surf wake got much cleaner and longer with the weight up front at the end of the day.

Anyone else have a '07 22Ve with the factory ballast? I'd like to talk to someone else that has the same setup.

What is the factory ballast for the 22VE?

I was told by my dealer not to bother, but I aleady want it, and we are only a few weeks in to the season.

            Thanks

900 pounds. There are two hard tanks in the back storage lockers and a big V-sac in the bow. I think that the v-sac must be partitioned b/c there is just one sac up there but 2 pumps (starboard and port) for the front. I am pretty happy with how the factory ballast makes the wakeboarding wake and wakesurfing wake. Why did your dealer say not to bother? Was it b/c "Tige's don't need ballast with the TAPS2 and ConvexV hull"?

                Pretty much....

It's okay I will have either the stock ballast installed or a custom system, just trying to decide what way to go.

                is stock:

300 in each sac? for a total of 900?

                Thanks

I have it in my RZ2, should be the same setup. What did you need to know?

I thought the same with the front sac but its not partitioned and you could fill the entire bag with just one fill pump. There are two fill pumps and two empty pumps.

By the way the surf wave looks great!

Korgae, each rear tank is 300 and the front bow sac is 300. However I personally think the front bow sac is a little more like 350-375.

They must practice saying this every morning at Tige. I spoke with the product manager for the 22 Ve when they were showing their prototype at a Tige owners reunion and he said the same thing. It's a marketing thing because they think their target market is families looking for a versatile boat. Of course, as soon as they figure out you know how to ride, they start bragging about how much weight they can put in their boats.

I am in the same boat. My dealer talked me out of it, I have a brand new 24Ve. Also, I got the impression from the dealer, that the factory ballast have been a bit troublesome, and reading on the forum about the vapor lock and stuff, maybe.

I called Rival, since they don't seem to have a site anymore. They said they are still in business, just had a total catastrophe on there website. They said they have complete systems, automatic, with instructions to install, designed for Tige boats, since they are a Tige dealer. They have a 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 system. 2 3, or 4 bags. The 4.0 is 4 bags, 2 in back 2 in front, all fill independent and automatic, so great for surfing. About 1100 to 1200lbs they said. The cost for the 4.0 system was $1495. I am thinking of getting one, and using it as my winter project. Or buying it, and having someone more experienced install.

Dog is right. It's also not an entirely incorrect statement, it's about perspective. A beginner/intermediate rider will do great on the wake as it is. A more advanved rider will want ballast.

This is what I don't get. I ordered my boat and if they would have said I would have liked the wake better with ballast, I would have ponied up, but the salesman which I feel did a great job in every other area said he didn't think Tigé boats needed ballast. I guess I should have checked into it more, he does own a nawtweek.

I don't have the ballast system in my boat but I am glad that I didn't get it from what I have I heard on this website. However, wakeboarding is all about technique and we all could use better technique when it comes to wakeboarding (yes, including myself and probably more than others on here). A wake can be 12 inches high and with the proper technique, them will land in the flats. So, an additional ballast system in my boat is overkill IMO but would be nice.
