    Gas tank facial

Whats with the pressure build up in the gas tank? isn't the last thing you want is gas spraying out all over you? It's gotten me 3 times already. The first time was by the Tige rep himself. We were at the gas station filling up. He was pumping it from in the boat, and I was standing near him and the pump on the ground. Then all of the sudden it burped up and sprayed all over me. -This was a little to much gas than I usually like to have all over me. Ya know?

So I have learned to fill up gallon by gallon. Meaning fill 1 gallon. Stop. Remove the pump. Let the air pressure return to normal than pump another gallon. 2 at the most, If you don't... then your in for a surprise. The worst time was at the marina on Lake McClure. I was completely covered with fuel. My shirt and shorts were covered. The sheriff there told me to jump in the lake.... I agreed.

As far as I know there are safety measures with auto companies (car & trucks) to protect people being doused with gasoline. Gas stations have made safety features on gas pump's to stop this. My last boat never did that

My question is why the heck would Tige let a design flaw like that pass? This is a serous problem. One day someone getting sprayed with gas and all of the sudden one spark and poof! Great balls of fire!

I can see having to pump slowly, but gallon by gallon? Isn't that thing next to the gas cap a pressure release valve?

Not trying to be neg. don't get me wrong, I love, love, love my new boat and Tige rocks! but this is the one thing I cant understand.

Here are a couple of threads covering this same topic. I had this happen a couple of times early on. Now I try to fill up based on the amount of gas I have used since the last fill up. My gauge is very accurate so this has worked out to with in a few gallons.

Also, put the lever on the slowest notch and listen for the gas to start to gurgle up the filler neck. Takes a little practice, but you will get the hang of filling up with out over flowing.

The sheriff told you to jump into the lake????? That is too funny because they will be the first to issue you a ticket for poluting the water.....

Glad to hear that the boat is working out for you. We just started to go out to Folsom on our boat on Wednesday around 5:00 PM. Are you still going out to Folsom Mon thru Wed???? Which fork do go up??

Well, for safety reasons I'm sure he would overlook the pollution factor. However, he might not overlook you jumping in without a life jacket and someone holding up an orange flag .

Yeah he did. When he saw how much fuel sprayed on me that was the first thing he told me to do. I was drenched. Not much went into the lake, it was on me!

Yeah man Im there like 3-4 times a week. Weekends we just get drunk at north fork and check all the tigobitties!

As for the week Im down to go at around the end of the day. Sometimes we are out there by noon. Hit me up man Im down!

seen the threads I just think its a bad design flaw. I have seen other boats do it when they are full. I only had 10 or so gallons, and it was spraying. I fill up slowly now. I have a bad feeling that someone one day might not be so lucky.

honestly, I dont have this problem. Then again, I listen to the fuel as its going into the tank- as the tank fills up, the sound of the air being displaced goes up in pitch. Also, it increases in pitch faster, right before its full.

So, listen to it. As the tank gets towards full, slow down.

Ruune makes a good point. Also, it could be that your fuel vent (at the other end of your tank) is clogged. If it's clear, then everything should be fine. The only other thing I would tell you is to make sure your boat is level. I avoid gas stations where I end up on an incline because of that.

The problem is the tank is so flat that it takes a while to level out. Your car gas tank, by comparison, is a lot deeper and not as wide.

Like I have said before. I pump at about half speed and dont have a problem. the pump shuts off automatically just like a car

Here is another thread that you need to read. This will cause you a lifetime of grief as you have to look at the molding messed up every time you use your boat. Don't over fill or top of the gas. In fact I recommend that you run your boat for about .5 hours after you fill it up for the last time or get one good board or tube run in before you store it. This will ensure that you have enough expansion room the next year.

anhaney, I had that happen to me about 6 weeks ago. The good thing here is that I caught it before it did any damage to the gelcoat or anything else in that manner.

i always fill it up the last time for the season, but the storeall stabalizer in it and then go out to the lake and use it. That way it's not full, the stabalizer is in all the fuel, and it will work great the next season
