Now you guys have got me worried. How many hours do you recon you're getting between impeller changes?

Where I run, I'm the only wakeboard boat, so if I'm being towed back in on the hook, it'd prolly behind a Bayliner or a BassMasterClassic something or other . On second thought, the BassMaster's would just as soon let me drift and die...

T, I feel sorry for you... Good luck and I guess you will be doing a TON of preventive maintenance in the years to come.

          LOL!!!

My understanding is that it is not so much the hours that kill an impeller, but having it sit around dry during the off season with the tines bent, it will eventually cause cracks and then they fail.

Most recommend every 2 years, but since they are so cheap and we can have harsh winters, I do mine annually.

Thanks M-Dog - that's positive news, because my boat doesn't really have an off-season. We've ridden 14 of the last 15 months thanks to our air-tight body bags/drysuits (couldn't ride last February because the river was frozen solid).

I will pick me up an extra impeller sooner than later, tho, for the inevitable.

            Thanks guys, T*

Being the only Boarding rig is a mixed blessing - the water's all buttah until about 11:00 a.m. when the tubers come out and the waverunner's hang-overs are gone. And when you ride away a backroll, the Bayliner crowd gives you a Standing O like your last name is Bonifay or something .

But, I'd still rather be at a spot where we could hang and party and commune w/some Tige Brethren <sniff>.

I here you T. We have over our share of wakeboard boats in Sacramento.... They probably number 3 wakeboats to 2 fishing boat to 1 hotboat.

Moki You must be able to change an impeller in about 30 min singlehandedly now. You should be on the frequent impeller list and maybe you could get some of those for free!

I spoke with Global this am. The sales rep said all you need to do is give him the measurement of your currant impeller or the manufacture of the impeller; they will find the right replacement part. There phone number is 781-871-3700.

Bummer. My dealer charges me about $250 and they can usually squeeze me in for something like that. I like the idea of having the kit you described. What did you have to give for that?

I installed a globe and put two seasons on it with no problems. I normally change every year, but wanted to see how the globe would perform. I finally changed it last month and it still looks like new. No cracks and still very flexible.
For the application, I was able to give Globe the part number of my typical impeller and they cross referenced it. I also had to buy a little key-tab adaptor from Merc since the pump shaft has a flat spot and the impeller is round with a key slot (make sense ).

How would you back flush to get the pieces out if you burned up an impeller on Powell and were 4 hours from a marina?

I do keep a spare impeller on my boat, but have never changed one. It will be joy when I do for sure.

If the chunks were small enough, would they go through?

                            Ballast pump maybe?

I think most pieces just go right on through, I've never had issue with them getting caught.

Most of the time, the pieces stayed within the pump and I could account for all of them. The tech at the Tige dealership said that it takes a few pieces to block the water. So, you could just put the new impeller on or Tequila's idea of using a ballast pump is a pretty good one. Somebody else mentioned this, but the racheting wrenches work very well. Like Tequilasun, even after shredding the impeller as bad as I did in the picture. I didn't get any pieces to come out from the line going to the engine. I did get a few pieces to come out from the scoop on the bottom of the boat.

I just bought a brand new pump complete with pulley for $275 (includes $25 shipping). There were four more available. These things retail for $428.
