    Starting a comp...

There are alot of good riders down where I am.
So I was thinking of starting a Competition.

    Questions:

    How hard is it?
    What is involved?
Any money out of my pocket required?
    Sponsors?

I know surfdad started one a while back.
    Any input is greatly appeciated!!

    How hard is it?
Easy but a lot of work

    What is involved?
1)Location: need good place with access to water and place for people to watch, need facilities.
2)Judges and judging structure. Different age/ability levels.
3)Sponsors: you should be able to get sponsors to foot the whole bill, but go to them with as many details worked out as you can. You need to "sell" them on the Idea. How will they benefit??? participants, spectators, media coverage, T-shirts w/sponsors on them. etc. Talk to any company related to boating. Go to them with a budget and what you need them to do, as well as ask them for thier ideas. Tell the sponsors how you plan to promote the event and reach possible participants.
    4) small registration fee will off-set some of the cost.
    5) Come up with a few Event Names and run them past the sponsors for there input, but choose the name early.
    6) I would stay away from "cash prizes" and try to go with trophy and goods. Companies can always right off inventory, but money comes right out of someone's operating budget.

Alot of work, May cost money but you just have to Find a Major sponcer and they will usually pay for some of it and give a prize.

There is an INT chapter in most states, and even SC.
