Couple of questions after first trip out.....

As posted in the last thread our computer is down so I am not able to post pics. sorry....

We absolutely love the boat. We have only had a chance to put an hour on but are hoping for more this weekend.

Just had a couple of quick questions:

Our depth guage was working on and off. Some times it would work with precision and then other times it would just read 1.5 ft. even when we were in 90 feet of water. It seemed like whenever it wasn't reading accurately it just went to 1.5 feet almost like a default. Anyone else experience this or have any suggestions? The water conditions were pretty rough as we were experiencing 20-30 mph winds that day.

The other issue we have is that the Clarion remote stereo control on the drivers side has a film on the display that almost makes it hard to read. It looks like a smudge, and it almost looks like there should be a protective film over the display for shipping. But no matter how hard we look we are unable to find an edge to lift the film if that was the case. We have tried cleaning mostly with water and terry cloth (not sure if it's a safe surface for a cleaner) and have had not luck. It really looks as though it's on the inside. I was really hoping there was a film and it the smudge was between the display and the protective film but again we can't find an edge. What a pain in the neck to return the boat to the dealer for this. Anyone else experience this. Or have any suggestions?

Those pyroelectric (is that right terminology?) displays....the touch sensitive control panels, usually have plastic over them. Did you try just scraping it with your nail. Usually the protective film will be immediately known. Your fingernail should not damage the actual unit.

Depth gauge: 1.5 is probably the keel offset. So instead of dropping to 0, it is dropping to 1.5. A couple of things I know about getting those readings. One is air in the epoxy that was used to mount it. This assumes you have an in-hull transducer that is glued to the floor. The other (and I know this one from experience) is that the sounder takes an average when it displays. if something is off, say there was some turbulence, or the rudder got picked up, and the unit had a number way far off, it will freak out and just register the shallow reading again.

Do you know where your transducer is located: in-hull, transom, through hull? Where you sitting or running when it was reading off?

    What's wrong with your computer?

On our maiden voyage for our '07 22Ve we also experienced the depth gauge problems that you mention. It would bounce back and forth between 1ft and 999ft and everywhere in between. The only problems we had were that and the fuel gauge not working.. hopefully the dealer can fix both when we take it in next week..
If you ain't falling.. you ain't trying hard enough..

My depth gauge does the same thing......... 1.5 FT............ If I come to a dead stop then it will read again but as soon as I start to move, it goes to 1.5 feet.

I am going to speak to the dealer about the gauge and see what he says.

Has anyone else spoken to their dealer about this?

Mine works just fine. No need to talk with the dealer on that one.

I just got of the phone with the dealer and he said that the rough conditions may have played a factor. He asked that I give it a few more tries in smoother water and then if it's still acting up to bring it in and they will replace the tranducer. The deth finder was acting up mostly when we were moving but when we were going slower or in calmer water it seemed to work more consistantly but still not 100%. Additionally the dealer said he would order a new clarion head unit today and replace it right away. Mac Callums Boat House is top notch and they are handling everyhting like true professionals.

I have had 2 other boats with depth gauges, not Tige. And my depth gauge does the same, and so did the other boats. Rough water, or moving more than 10-15 mph will usually make it go nuts. Sometimes, they will stay "off" even when you stop, but usually turning key off and on will reset it. They are not designed to work moving too fast, the transducer is unable to receive the returning signal accurately.

If the transducer is too far from the keel, it will get too many air bubbles across it and like Spharis said, will show the shallow reading

If you do need to replace the remote, see if your dealer would get it either drop shipped to you or order one in and ship it to you. Mine did a new amp for me and I had it in about a week

My thru-hull tri-ducer is located on the starboard side, right below the engine/transmission bellhousing.

Also, if it is mounted too far foward, the rise of the boat under power may be picking it up out of the water. The transducer will read your low setting at that point. They cannot transmit through air. This assumes in-hull or through hull styles though.

On a side note: the one I just installed works no matter what speed, or where I am. I expected it to have issues making turns or under power due to the location (in front of the pickup) and the deadrise but it holds a good reading everywhere.

chpthril, that has to be the cleanest tranny I have seen. Mine has a decade of funk on it, along with the South La. rust. I will need to pull my motor and give it a face lift, and replace my ring gear this winter.

SP, his boat is still "new" compared to yours. Don't give him that much credit. Give it a few more years.

The one i installed works no matter what the speed, and pretty darn acurately i must say. If the transducer is placed in the direct path of a tracking fin or step in the hull you'll get inaccurate readings, Occasionally mine will sound the alarm in deep water and i suspect that it reads across something under water (fish, log, body) as i'm passsing. Oh well it's close enough for me. Just scares the crap outta ya when your in 200 feet of water and tha damn thing goes off!

Razz, Body??? Let us know where you go boating and we will make sure we don't go there. Sounds like it's near Oakland or Compton.....
