    Air Dryer / De-humidifier

    Anyone use one of these?

    Seems more effective than these:

It would probably dry carpet too.

I keep the boat down at the marina. I'm a bit nervous about running power into the boat when I'm not there.

I've used the Dome thing and it's a pain if you spill the jelly that gets created.

I've started using a product called Eva-Dry and I highly recommend it. No mess and you can recharge by plugging in overnight. I have 4 of them and rotate them periodically when my boat is stored outside for any length of time.

It would be hard to say. You already park the boat at the marina where the humidity is high. IMO, you would be changing out the tablets very quickly but the electrical air dryer seems like it better suite your purpose if you don't mind having something running in your boat when you are not there. However, mildew likes warmer environments.....

What about having a normal light bulb turned on in it???? http://www.ext.vt.edu/pubs/housing/356-643/356-643.html

Not sure that's what you would want. They all work based on heat, so it would drain your battery pretty quick.

I can't recommend the Eva-Dry enough. They really work well.

That does nothing for humidity. You need something that will remove moisture from the air.

oh this is probably the only advantage of living in the desert, there isn't crap here for humidity, so everything dries out in like 1 hour!

                        CP3,

Could you get an inverter and just set up a battery dedicated to just that dryer?

I use old siv bags from work.
Each bag is 1 lb and will pick up about 8oz of liquid.
When we get back from a wet day out, we just microwave them on high for about 6 min and then trough them in the boat. Next time out boat is dry and smell free.
Tige, it's a way of life!

I will be taking the boat out most weekend days. It is the period between trips (1-7 days) that I'm worried about.

For example, Saturday afternoon, we were out on the water. Storm clouds rolled in and just about the time we decided to head in, it started sprinkling. We were only a minute from the marina. When we hit the no wake zone, the downpour started. We still had about minute from there to when we were in the slip and under cover. The interior of the boat was really wet. We dried everything the best we could, but the carpet was still quite damp in spots. Two days later (today), the carpet was still had wet areas and I started noticing a slight mildew smell. I know it dried out some today, but I just know that next weekend the smell will be worse than today.

I was reading on the eva dry stuff...and it says that it takes 3-8 weeks to absorb 10 ounces of water. Will this absorb enough water and quick enough, if I use 2 or 3 at any given time, to prevent the mildew smell w/in that one week time frame between outings? I love the idea of not having electrical running into the boat at the marina, but I also don't understand how these eva dry units will help to dry the inside of the boat quick enough. Any thoughts?

I recharge mine once a week and I use 1 or 2 in the bow compartments and one in each V-Drive side compartment. It keeps things dry. We've had a lot of rain and I don't have that mildew smell. BTW, my boat's over 8 years old.
