Have 2 questions before I hand over the cash!

Well, tomorrow I should be picking up my used tige from the dealer. It is a 03 21i type r. Cant wait to take it out. This will be my first inboard so I had a question. When put in reverse, there is a wine, is this normal? Comes from the transmission I would guess.

Also, the taps is out of order for now, they are fixing it. I read about this problem on the board so I was sure to check it. It goes up great, but the pump labors heavily to lower it, and the guage doesnt read anything either. My question is is this an easy fix potentially, and how far down should the plate go? I want to make sure it is in working order 100% before I take delivery.

This board is awesome, the how to's are great, and I look forward to posting in the future. Thanks for all your help.

    Congratulations,
I have the same exact boat, the wine in reverse is perfectly normal. It will also only back up one way in reverse, to the right, that has to do with the torque of the propeller and such.
As far as the TAPS, I dont think the plate moves very far. I dont have the hydraulic system, so I dont know anything about the pump. I know some people have had problems with the guage, I dont think that should be very hard to fix.

Its a great boat, Im sure you will love it.

I have an '03 20i and the tranny does whine a bit when in reverse...and it works fine. I'll leave the TAPS question to the others who have dealt with that problem.

      Welcome!

I have a 06 20i and as everyone else says the whine is normal in reverse, also my plate is about an inch down from straight out when it is all the way down.
---v^---v^---v^_____---v^---v^ For a second there. I was bored to death!!

Awesome, that will give me some sort of guage as to checking the level at full down!.

The boat is awesome and can;t wait to get it home. The guy who owned it before always stored it out of water on a lift, and it is in perfect condition.

The only thing I have left to worry about, which I forgot to check (event though i checked it on all other boats I was looking at) is if the height with the tower lowered is less that 7 foot. I only have 7 feet of clearance to make it into the garage! Any idea on this for my 03 20i type r?

I'm gonna guess no on the height, but I could be wrong. I would think it would be closer to 9 or 10 feet. The tower should fold?

My tower folds down to be 7.5 feet. But we are also talking about two different boats. I would take a tape measure along with you.

I hope yours fits. When my tower is folded down it measures 7ft 4. With a 7 ft tall garage door it was something I overlooked and am still trying to figure out where to store it so its not outside

I can measure tomorrow on the tower. Do you know what kind of tower it is?

Is it a 20i or 21i, because you said both?

Pretty much it's a must to have 8' garage doors.
The home we just bought has 8' doors but the owner installed 7' openers so we had to have new 8' liftmasters installed.
Definately gotta have the baby inside.

Ok.... I measured. 7' garage door, Tallest point with the tower folded was about 6' 10". Thats with a 2003 Metcraft tower on a 2003 21i.

The boat is actually an 02, but was next years model I believe. As far as I and my dealer can determine, the 21i was not manufactured until 03. This boat must have been manufactured late 02.

Any idea what tower make this is? It says Tige ont he sides. Also, it would seem like the tower would swing back, and the front braces fold inward eliminating any problems for clearance. Would you agree?

Looks like an earlier Metcraft, but im not a tower expert.

Manufacture date should be the last 2 numbers in the Hull ID.

Here is my tower, Im going to describe this the best I can, the front leg, above the windshield, has pins in it that allow it to fold back, the part mounted to the boat stays put and is the highest point a little above the windshield. Hope that helps some.

It looks like you should be ok, but I would measure just to be sure.
