The best way that I have found to teach someone how to get up on a wakeboard is the "Help me up" method:
If you sit on the ground (on your butt) and bend your knees in front of you (so your sitting with your heels somewhat close to your butt), just have someone help you stand up by using both hands. This is exactly how you get up on a wakeboard. This is the simplest and most effective way (that I have found) to teach someone to get up.
Why I believe it works is because beginners usually have a problem with leaning forward, or letting the boat pull them forward, which is why they don't get up. By using the "help me up" method, you should realize when getting helped up that even though you are standing up, you are still leaning back to provide resistance between your arms and your helpers arms which is what lifts you up. In other words, it isn't someone else lifting your entire body weight up, it is the system of both of your arms, and you leaning back, that gets you up.
So when you are in the water with your board in front of you, rope over the board, it is just like being helped up off the ground from a seated position. Once the slack is out YOU DO NOT LEAN FORWARD OR TRY TO STAND UP, you just hold the rope tight with your hands and provide a little resistance by keeping your weight back, the boat will then pull your board on top of the water, and if you stay leaned back (you wont fall back because the boat is pulling you) you WILL get up. Once up remember to keep more of your weight on your back foot and you're good to go.
