BIG PROBLEM 2007 20i BLOWN ENGINE!!!

Brought home new Tige' 2007 20i Tuesday night. .6 hours on engine. Ran approx 1.5 hours Wednesday and approx 2 hours Thursday. Trouble cranking 2 times, 3rd time would not start. Took back to dealer. First they thought starter misaligned, intake hose was jammed up against starter so hard it was crimping hose. Inlet pipe was too long when installed. It damaged starter teeth so he wanted to check flywheel make sure no damage there, then couldn't turn fly wheel to check for damage teeth. Pulled plugs on right side, water in cylinders. No water in left cyclinders. Said its got to be defective or cracked head. Engine never overheated, wasn't even hot when it wouldn't crank last time. You literally could put your hand on top of the manifold for 20-30 sec without moving. When trying to crank 3rd time with mechanic on phone instructing me, a loud bang came from the right rear of the engine. VERY UPSET at this point.

Well it does suck getting a new boat and there ends up being a problem. Most engine failure will happen right out of the block. They should replace the engine and also have them check the DD to make sure there is no damage. I am sure Tige and the dealer will take care of this ASAP so you are not stuck without a boat on the water. Hell make sure to see if they will kick down the first 3 services for the boat for the inconvenience.

DD is "Direct Drive"? Want new boat.

Well, fortunately check had not cleared bank, so I stopped payment and advised them accordingly. They can give me a new boat, not waiting month or 2 to put in new engine. I bought and paid for a new boat to avoid problems, I actually looked at a number of used but felt didn't want take chance buying someone else problems so spent another $10 grand for new one. I hope they make it right bec I really liked the boat.

I think what you ask is reasonable. I do not have any idea how long it takes to put in a whole new engine, but if they refuse to give you a different new one, your boat should be serviced ASAP, a month is a long time.

Can the boat then still be sold as 'new' once the engine is replaced? It will only have 3.5 hours on it.

Did they tell you it would be a month Hell, I can do an engine swap on most anything in an 8 hr day and boats have far less crap to un-hook/un-bolt. Marine Power or Tige should be able to motor freight one in in a couple of days, and have you back on the water by next weekend.

Since they are going install a brand new motor, your new boat will be good as new with the same 3 year warranty. If they can't fix it in a reasonable amount of time, then you are justified in "backing up the deal" and they can either put you in a new boat or you can take your business else where. I feel that because you stopped payment on a boat that you now own (on paper) they will not be in a hurry to fix it. By stopping payment, you have penalized the dealer for a failure of a Marine Power engine in a Tige boat.

Sorry to hear that your new boat broke. I hope everything gets worked out to your satisfaction ASAP.

            Was it marine power?

I think stopping payment was a good idea. I wouldn't take a replacment engine. I would get a new boat, some kind of an advanced warranty or service, or I would find a lawyer.

Just curious, Spharis, why would you not accept a replacement engine?

Will it not be the same as a new boat from the factory? Especially with the 3 year warranty? I don't know enough about it, but you must feel that the boat is inferior once an engine has been replaced.

No, it would be fine with an acceptable warranty put in place. I would expect some sort of extended service plan or warranty or something for the headache. If that couldn't be done, then a new boat would be the only other option.

                  Tim,

I feel your pain. I also have a 2007 20i and have had nothing but problems with it. I have only had it for a week and a half and it has been back to the dealership 5 times.

A brand new motor failure is a pretty freak occuance. However, a month? No. Not acceptable. They should at least give you a dealer demo to use or something. I'd give them a chance to make it right, but if they don't want to make it right, they must not want your business.

bsnook- What are they trying fix? Is it multiple issues or one re-occuring issue?
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

                        TimMs;
You paid a lot of money for something that failed in basically a few hrs. Have you considered telling them you want to unwind the deal?

um, if it's a dealer that's worth a hoot, i would think they would bend over backwards to make you happy. I mean the boat wasn't even broken in yet. I feel stopping the check was right to do. It may make some people mad, but buying a boat it should not have happened the way it did. Let us know how it goes.
