Lack of Spark?

okay so we brought our boat in to get a few hoses hooked up at the service place so we could take it out this weekend but for some reason it would not be able to get a spark from the sparkplug, now im not sure what they have checked but, they have absolutely no idea what could cause this. Anyone have any ideas? all i know is that they checked the pcm.
ANYONE KNOW WHAT MIGHT CAUSE THIS? i need to ride!!!

Bad coil? Disconnected ground wire or 12v?

now i have no electrical knowledge whatsoever, so can you inform me a little better on what these would be how hard they would be to fix and or replace

How did they check to see if there is no spark?? I'm going to ask the obvious, but is there gas in the tank

Does the engine turn over and if so does it turn over normally? If it does then you can almost rule out a bad ground.

Second, replace the coil. If you follow the plug wires back I believe you will get to a "distributor cap" (anyone with a 22v wanna confirm?). Typically the middle wire on that cap will go to the distributor, its a cylindrical piece that should be easily accessible and have two other wires attached to it.
Thats where I would start.

Spharis may be able to help more here. He's the electrical genius. Dunno if there is a way to test a coil or not. The good news is that they are pretty cheap.

Now, all that said, if the shop you take it to has no idea whats wrong? Find a new shop.

okay just talked to them...its turning over great and there trying to get a replacement coil but they said that they talked to the engine tech`s at tige and they had absolutely no clue what was wrong with it or what could be causing it, they said they have never experienced it before. so i guess my boat is really special!
any help much appreciated

let em change the coil and see what happens. Sometimes coils just go bad, or if they get jarred real good.....or maybe it a bad connection to the coil. Hard to say, but it sounds like they are on the right track anyway.

First are you saying that the dealer cant find why theres no spark or someone else. If you want to test the coil all you need is a test light that you can purchase from a parts store , the test light will have a clip that you hook to a ground on the block , next on the coil there will be two wires normally ones pink and the others white if the coil is marked it there will be a negative symble and a positive , with the key on one will light up your light when you probe it ,positive the other terminal will blink your light when the starter is turning the engine over, if the light blinks and there is no spark the coil is bad if it doesnt blink you have a possible sensor problem such as crank or cam, if there is no power at the coil then you have to trace out the power loss.

Before replacing the coil get a voltmeter and make sure you are getting 12v at the + terminal on the coil when you are cranking the engine. If you are not getting 12v there the coil is not the problem.
