In one of my previous posts it states that they are painted stainless. All I know is the black finish whatever it is was flawless
    Let it be!!!

Having been thru this already, it is interesting to watch the qustions show up again and again.
Dr. Larry Mann, FAE desiger, will send an email to all who are going to join the group buy. The email will consist of a questionaire for each of you to complete that will provide him with your specific dimensions of your boat. Larry will request this information regrdless if he has built a system for your type boat or not. Simple and fool proof.

Also, polished stainless and stainless are two different animals. The powder coated stainless usually has to be etched, scratched, or marred to let the powder stick, and the powder cost is probably 10-15 on top (which is wierd bc the polished are more expensive). Polished is polished after it is welded. At least that's how it works in auto land anyway.

FAE must have been unhappy with the last results on powdercoating, or the cost for the extra attention involoved was too high, so he has postponed those on group buys. That's what I am guessing.

Is it correct that we will be getting a polished stainless steel FAE in the group buy, or a painted or powdered black satinless FAE?

Either way, go ahead and count me in if it can come in 300 or less. The fabricators I was checking with do not want to mess with stainless because of the cost and penalty for failure. He suggested I get in touch with a shop in NO to have them made, but that shop requires a much larger order than we will generate to take the job. Cost would still be in the same range.

When I spoke to Larry, he said he could skip the powdercoating and polish the system and it would be close to a wash. You are correct about etching the surface. I was at the powdercoater yesterday and they "blast" everything to remove oils and rust and this etches the surface a little. Both processes are done after the system is welded. I can see how it could be a wash as far as the cost goes.

I got my FAE last year.
The powder coat started to peal. Larry took care of ASAP and recoated it for me.
He told me that this was becoming a problem.
Tige, it's a way of life!

When I asked him he said no problem. That said, sounds like he's going to ask us to measure anyway. So I guess I would measure. I'm going to tonight.

                Measurement directions are here: http://www.boatpipes.com/_Documents/...s%20Needed.pdf

The following is direct from Larry:

The FAE are made of 16 ga. stainless tubing (1/16” thick), which we then either polish or powder coat. You could hit the FAE with a hammer and won’t even dent it unless you hit it very hard.

At this time, we have discontinued the polishing as it quickly became VERY time consuming. The people that do our powder coating are going to start polishing stainless sometime soon and once they do, we hope to offer that option. For now though, we only have a few polished components left so anyone that wants polished can order that way, they just might not get it. It also helps us judge the demand for polished; which seems to be pretty good.

The powder coat is very durable. After a couple of years on our boat, it still looks great.

i'm still in for the black one, since my boat is black! but I guess since they are not doing it, I'll just get whatever.

they ARE doing black. Its the polished stainless ones they are not doing.

I'll call Larry today and get this going.

Essentially the way this is going to work is that we will each go and place the order on his site, and when you get to the last part, there will be a code to put into the additional notes section that will state you are part of this group buy. He runs all the payments manually, so he will know to run for the price minus the discount.

Additionally, if you have not measured, you should, even if he has your boat listed. Just to be safe IMHO.

If everyone can email me their email addresses at jleger98@yahoo.com I'll send out details.
