    Lake Mead

So, a family member just moved near Vegas, and we're thinking of doing our first Mead trip this summer. I'm looking for advice on where to stay/boat. Can't do a houseboat (kids too little). Wish list:

--Lodging near water (walking distance to boat, if possible)
--Slips to rent (would like to avoid pulling boat off the lake each night)
--Lodging that will allow us to cook our own food (barbeques, kitchen(ettes), etc.)

Does this exist on Mead? If not, what are the best options? We'll be coming from So. Cal.

    Thanks.

Long time ago stayed at Echo Bay Resort. Resort is pushing it. I thought we had a kitchenette but it is not mentioned in the seven crown resort brochure. Not much around Echo bay though. Ussually was less crowded going north up the Overton Arm. Again have not had any extended stays there since 1999
    Let it be!!!

Go to www.sevencrown.com Lake Mead resort shows rooms with kitchenettes. Not sure about daily slip rentals. Someone from Vegas needs to help out from here.
        Let it be!!!

First come first serve courtesy dock for $15 a night. Usually not a problem finding a spot.

I just thought about this, I'll be gone most of July so I'm going to take the boat out for a cleaning so you could probably use my slip at Echo Bay for the weekend if that's when you'll be here.

That's a generous offer. Unfortunately, I think we're going in August, but I really appreciate the thought.

You may want to look at Temple Bar as well - I've never stayed there, but friends say they have lodging (Cabins I think), and sandy beaches for the little ones.

                  Just came back from Mead

We came up from Aliso Viejo, stayed at the Hacineda(sp) Hotel in Boulder City right next to Los Vegas Boat Harbor(about 2 miles from lake). We were able to keep our boat in the water there over night Thursday-Sunday for $15 per night. Fully worth it not to have to pull and relaunch boat. It is right close to the Dam also. Can't help ya with the food thing though we ate in the Hotel. King Crab legs on Friday night for $14.95 they had the most meat on any King Crab I have ever had at any price. Hotel was really inexpensive also. Got a family suit in the east-wing (you can bring your dog) for 40 approx on Thurs and 85 on Fri-Sat

                    Mead

I have launched at Temple Bar. We've always stayed at the Hacienda or a friends vacation home in Henderson. Either way, it's a haul to the water. With that said, for the little ones - there is great beach and some of the best boating landscape you'll ever see. If you go, I'd suggest launching with a group. It's a long way out of the way if you know what I mean. Not a place you want to get stuck without power and the family in tow. As far as lodging there, I think they're more like fishing huts?

My suggestion is to stay at the Hacienda (secured lot for your toys) and trailer to Calvillle Bay. Pretty easy to get in and out of there and a few decent places to beach.

I should have taken a picture this weekend of Calville. Took us 40 minutes to put the boat in and the wait was ~ 2 hours Saturday night. I left it docked overnight and pulled it out at 2pm on Sunday and it took 1 hour before it was our turn.

They were down to 3 lanes and it was the first nice hot weekend of the year. They said in 3 weeks they'll have 2 more lanes open.

Do they still have the metal traction plates there? Recently we have just been launching at Hemmingway. The problem there though is that you need to back in pretty far, that's where the lifted four wheel drive comes in real handy.

They did have metal traction plates layed down and you really didn't have to dunk the truck too much, but only having the 3 lanes was killing everyone.

We were at Callville last Sunday - ran into the same issues - 1-1/2 hour wait to launch and 2 hours to pull out. Anyone been up to Echo lately? I don't know if it's worth the extra drive.
