Having adjustability in the unit itself takes all the guess work out of it. I just got my hands on one for myself so I'll see how it will mount up some time this week.
Nicky keep us posted on this. I have to do something on mine as well. I had to replace the original when i got the boat as it was cracked and broken, but at $130 for a new one i don't want it to happen again! I personally could care less how it looks as long as it works, it's not like i drive around with the lid open!

um, the one on anhany's boat is just a simple spring, about 6 inches long and about a 3/8 diameter. extends out, and locks, to close it you just push on it.

They make springs that when you open it they lock into place and then you just tap the spring and it collapses. Some of the lids (like on mine and Doms) the lid is hardly thick enough to but screws through it.

You could through-bolt with powder coat machine bolts and nuts.

A two part fast set expoxy is more than enough to hold.

yeah I could. But i think I woud try just some two part poxy first. I mean it doesn't have to hold that much.

I wondered about this myself and did some searching a while back and I came up with this. boatersworld.com , stock # 329290035. Westmarine has them also, but their site was not working when I checked.
I'm on a boat man. I got my flippy floppies....
