Wow, that is a huge difference between the 06 and 07 racks.

Just watch out for the paint to peel on the uprights. Mine have do this but just wanted to warn you. I have the same color and uprights as you do.

OK sorry for the delay, I have been at the lake all day. Got the pics and it couldn’t be any closer to what chpthril had happen to his rack.

Here are the pics of the broken rack. The top bolt broke off and bottom ripped out with only 4 threads connecting.

On the 07 they have remedied the problem so they know they had issues with the 06's why would they not fix the problem before the chance of serious harm to passengers in the boat. It seems like they would have a dealer recall / adjustment to fix the potential issue. People are hesitant to ride in the back corner where the other board rack is with the two boards for fear of decapitation.

On this issue we usually only had two boards at a time so one on each rack. This one of the few times where we had two boards in a single rack.

For 07 they eliminated the quich release and added a threaded bolt to release and lock. This bolt will allow the load/wieght of the boards to be disstributed to the bolt instead od 100% of the load being on the 2 short bolt.

Other than the weld, I dont know what has been done by Skylon/Tige to fix the 06 design.
I, at one point, thought it was meant "C" separated from "E" [each fork] - probably not though.

So the '07 rack either does not swivel 270 deg, or, to do so, you need to unscrew the threaded bolt each time. Do you know which?

To me, this failure mode (shown to be more than a one time incident), is unacceptable, as this poses a serious saftey issue.

Yes, the 07's will swivel all the way into the boat. Yes, the bolt will need to be unscrewed to swivel as it replased the quick-release lever.

I would say that the 07 change was already in the works before the 06's started failing, or the change was a result of the failures. Kinda "chicken before the egg" deal.

In all actuality, I bet we are talking a short period of time and a small number of failures. In order to have a "recall" you need to know root cause, repair, and those units effected. Coming from the auto business, I know this takes time to put together, especially since it would have to go through "legal"

I'm sure that Tige knows this can be an issue on the 06 swivel racks so I cant see them declining to fix.

The dealer is more than willing to warranty this stuff. Well, this is my dealership but there shouldn't be any difference. Go talk with the dealership and they will set everything straight. If they don't, then contact Tige but give the benefit of the doubt to the dealership.

I understand this is will be covered as soon as I get to the dealer to let them know of the issue. My bigger issue is that they didn’t receive info or take action (question home office Mfg.) to find out if action needed to be taken when I brought it up specifically with them last year. I would have thought this was a freak accident if I didn’t know it happened at least two other times exactly like it happened to mine.

I understand for a huge recall it would have to go through legal and be a large ordeal but i hate to think of the legal issue Tige would face if someone was seriously hurt by the rack and boards while the issue was pointed out with clearly visible bolts not to correct length along with failures in the market.

I would rather error on the cautious side versus taking a chance even at the dealer level if the corp. office didn't demand the issue be fixed.

I will bring this issue up with my dealer at the next opportunity. I remember reading about the issue way back, but thought since I had 4 bolts from "A" to "D", I thought I was ok.

So far, da.bell, and chpthril have gone back to the dealer after a failure (BobbyD, before with no fix, and then will be going after a failure). juniors - what led you to go back?

I got tired of tightening up the bolts they would loosen up with red loctite its just aluminum. When you have 4 boards and rough waters things have a way of getting loose there is as lot of stress there.
4-7-09 And still employeed for yet another week (subject to change at any moment)have we hit bottom yet?
