Anyone know Layton Ramsey?/ I saw Laird Hamilton!

I went to Maui for a week with just the MRS. It hurts to be me

We went into a sushi joint in Kahului, and my wife says the guy at the sushi bar looks like one of those famous 'surfer dudes'. I love to watch Spike or Rush and see the high adventure surf shows and such they have, and she sometimes gets sucked into watching guys surf 60 foot waves also. He looked kind of like every other middle aged 'surfer dude' I have ever seen. My wife asked the waiter, who confirmed that he was Laird Hamilton, the most famous big wave rider of all time. Kudos to the wife for noticing. I thought of being an obnoxious mainlander and asking for an autograph, but instead just let him relax.

We took a bike ride from the top of the volcano, mount Haleakala. At the bottom, we went to a Mexican restaurant with our group for breakfast. We made some small talk with the couple next to us. They were from Canada. He noticed my backpack that has the Tige logo on it. Turns out that he is a Tige owner as well! Got his boat from Hyperactive watersports. They have a son who is trying to become a professional wakeboarder. His name is Layton Ramsey. They say that he has some small sponsors and has worked teaching lessons. Small world. Quite a coincidence that of all the people on the island, we would find another Tige owner.
    Be excellent to one another.

I think you made the right move. What's your wife doing checking out the other surfers at the sushi bar?

I would have been the mainlander spazz you mentioned. He's married to a volleyball player/model Gabriel Reece (sp?).

Now we'll be sure to look for Layton Ramsey on the wakeboarding scene! Sounds like a great tip Tall. We should have a Tige' travel section.

Why didn't you tell me that you were going to Hawaii? I would have offered to be your guide (yes, I know what a sacrifice that would have been, but I would have done it for you).

I'll be going on May 29th.

If you like big wave riding stuff, there is a great video out call "Riding Giants". It is a documentary of big wave riding from its inseption through the current with a large section on Laird. Def a good flick to have in the library, sits right next to Dust to Glory at my house!
