    Insurance claims???

I got my boat running just good enough to drive it into a "rockbar" last week. And yes it's rockbar, not sand bar. I bent my front fin and a couple blades on the ss prop. I later noticed the fiberglass all around the rudder is chipped and cracked. The bilge came on for the 1st time ever so obviously it's bringing in water. I have no idea about the shaft, strut, or whatever else got "jarred".

Have any of you ever made a claim for similar damage?

    Did your rates go up?

I have a $250 deductable w/ AAA and I'm guessing the repair will be much more than that.

Similar thing happened to me and my rates did not got up because of the claim. I'm betting every company and country is different though. I'm thinking you may have damaged your shaft strut and possibly other components as well. It does not take much to damage the strut.

    $250 deductable - wow - that's low.

Oh man, hate to here that! Hope you get everything fixed alright.

Your rates should not go up. Most insurance co's don't award points to boat claims like they do for auto claims.

OUCH, that stinks right at the start of the year. It is Highly likely you have strut, shaft and Prop damage. Have it all checked out real good. Also get your engine alignment checked.

          I second what anhaney said.

I did the same thing, except hit a submerged log. My insurance agent was in my boat when it happened. He covered the whole thing minus the deductible. Cost about $1700 w/ prop. I didn't have any rudder or fiberglass damage, but it I did have to replace the shaft, rudder, strut and prop.

We went with Westmar, as Tige Water sports can just submit a claim with have an adjuster show up.

                file the claim.
You have quite a bit of damage. Fiber is expensive to have done.
                - besides that is what you pay ins for. So what if it goes up. Insurance companies dont raise rates dollar for dollar. If you have a $3k+ claim...which I think you will have from you brief descripition. Your rates wont go up by $3k on your next policy period.
                - and it does vary from company to company on how they handle these types of claims as point accessed or not.

Thanks guys. I'll probably give them a call this week. Luckily I have 2 months to get it fixed (before the kid gets out of school.)

Just an idea, when you have it fixed ditch the ss prop. A friend of mine is a boat mechanic and swears against ss props unless you are in an area where there is less than 0 precent chance of hitting something. SS props are hard and when you hit something will not "give" thus causing more damage. Just a suggestion. You mentioned a couple blades bent, had they broken you might not have had as much damage.

I have heard the exact same thing.

I have made a claim and it was $7,400 worth of damage and my rates never went up.
I'm on a boat man. I got my flippy floppies....
