Doms - I have a giant mellon too. I wear a 7 3/8 hat and I had to tighten the chin strap a good bit. Make sure you try out the latest Pro Tec model.

I know I was just messin!

BTT.. What is the difference between the Pro Tec Ace Wake Helmet and the Pro Tec Ace Water Helmet? I was looking at the two helmets at Wakeside and the only difference I saw was that the wake has the removable ear guards and the water doesn't.. I wouldn't think just the ear guards would make it 20 bucks more. Are there other differences?

          "Wake" Helmet

          "Water" Helmet

the water helmet is meant for kyaking and stuff like that. i'm not really sure the real differences between them other than maybe the wake one is for higher impact and has the ear protectors. i do recall the site saying specifcally not to use the water one for wakeboarding though.

I faced the water/wake choice as well. As far as I could tell it's just the ear flaps. I thought they would be good protection agains blowing out an eardrum but I came pretty close with the flaps and helmet on. Sure protected my nugget though.

Funny thing is that when I was growing up I never wore a helmet for anything. Now I never ride bike or snow ski w/out one. Use it for wake when I get aggressive. Helps a lot with confidence.
