Safety has been portrayed as uncool, but it's a lot better now.

I am not at all saying that helmets aren't a great idea.. I just had a question. Aren't the helmets open over your ears? In that case how would they protect against a blown eardrum?

I have never worn a helmet but am thinking about getting one for this season after reading this thread.. I am averaging at least one ear infection a summer every summer that I have been boarding, plus I knocked myself out twice... maybe I should get a helmet...

Yep, the Pro Tec Ace Wake has removable ear flaps, although I don't know why anyone would take them out.

I wear a helmet. I don't think it takes much skill to land on your head. I have gotten off balance on simple jumps and end up landing on my head.

My friend bought the Ace tech helmet and brought it on the boat. He received a razzing like fiver was giving. After one of those eyelid peeling faceplants, I put the helmet on for the next ride. As fortune would have it, I took a nearly identical fall. All that I can say is, I now wear a helmet. I can't afford to lose any more brain cells.

You can pull the pads out of the Ace Wake in order to fit over your giant head.

I don't wear one, but I'm stupid. The best thing about them is the ear protection. Several of my crew wear them just for that reason.

yeah, protec's don't fit me. I remember trying them on for the snow. I have a Bern, and like it, but it just sits funny. I wish I could find some helmet foam so I could rip the foam out and make it fit better to my head. I may just go buy another bern, but get the style that comes in xxl. here is what I mean by a goofy fit.
