    Hypothetical boat delivery questions

I have recently thought about starting a boat shipping company mostly for local runs.

I've been asked a bunch of times to pull a boat here or there.

If you were in a bind, what amount would you pay to have your boat delivered to you. Just curious to know what you would think.

    1) boat was 100 miles away?
    2) boat was 300 miles away
    3) Boat from home to lake for the day or weekend, and back to your house the next day, round trip say 100 miles. Including launching and retrieving the boat from the lake.

I'm honestly looking for what a reasonable price range might be for these services.

    $.75-$1.00 a mile
Too little it's not worth it for you
Too much and it's not reasonable for the client

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm not trying to make it a job, but just something I can do for a little spare cash. I'm also weird in that I do like driving, but I don't want to haul boats all over the country or anything. I was thinking just around the local lakes here, and to Tulsa, KC, STL, Little Rock. all around 300 miles from T-rock.

Looks like someone is wising up .

You know you can still fly here and visit and watch the delivery guy load it up if you really want to come back for a weekend.

I'm about 30 miles from my house and I think that people here would pay >$60 to have their boat sitting in the water waiting for them even if they were even 10 miles away.

cost is regional though, fuel, insurance, labor, traffic, terrain, Demand.

Also Teq if you plan to deliver and return boat to owners home, where do you plan to store boat until it can be picked up? Rent a few slots at a marina?

$60.00 roundtrip.....well unless you love to deliver boats I just don't see a profit, then again I haven't run a BP on it either
How busy are the ramps, trailer storage....too many questions

Hey Hey Hey, don't go all technical on me here!

Just kidding sparky, those are things I would have to work out. I've gotten a rash of people asking me to do stuff like this lately, and I really can't do it for free. I realize it is regional (IE much cheaper here than in Vegas)

I'm thinking that trailer storage, for the weekend wouldn't be an issue, I have a back lot I could lock them in, no problem. Where to keep the boat for the weekend would be an issue, the marina rents slips, probably something they would have to do (no way I want to be a middle man for that kind of thing). I also don't want to pull and store, and re-launch...I gotta have time for fun too!

Ramps, no problem, usually less than 10 minute launch time at the marina (provided Mr. joe-blow idiot isn't there) If they were backed up, I have my secrets!

This is all very hypothetical, right now I do stuff like this for gas $$ and beer. That might be the best Business Plan there is!

Doing it for neighbors, friends, and family for gas $$ and beer would be cool. For me, as a for profit bus, I'd probably be doing if for the govt and that wouldn't cut it!!

Our ramps here in Oregon are so crowded on the weekends that if you do not get to the lake by 8am, there is no trailer parking. That is a big issue up here, again totally regional though.

Sometimes these little "ventures" can get so damn complicated that it's not worth the hassle, but if you see the need and a profit a BP will take care of any issues and have a fairly accurate forcast.

Although, that would be a great excuse to buy a new rig!!!

Out here RV's are like Fords, they are everywhere. For whatever reason there are a ton of RV manufactuers located in Oregon. I have for a while considered getting into the RV/Boat storage, somewhere where people can park their toys that is heated, lit, and have access to water to clean their rigs. Most storage here is a gravel parking lot, and it's not cheap at that! I believe that if someone is willing to spend 100k-1,000,000 for an RV, would they not spend $100-$200 a month for garage space to tinker on it? Not just parking, but a real space to work and clean your rig. Who knows, I'm too busy to even think about starting something like that.

                    Good luck bro!!

Evil, this is why you need to get out of Southern Highlands and move over to Henderson. We are able to get out after work for a few sessions.

Ha Ha, I didn't even think of the new rig angle!

We have RV storage lots here, just like you are talking about. They aren't 200 bucks a month though, they are like condo units, you own them. Big upfront Cost, smaller monthly maintenance fee, water, power, sewage dump, wash bay, security on site...all the cool services! I thought about buying one of the big bays for the Tige...Pull through, 16' doors on both ends, wash bay, could park both the boat and the rig in there. Or two boats! The cost was just too much for the luxury. Had it been closer to the house, then................

Would you tow my car? I had a wrecker co. charge me $50 to take my car 3 miles down the road.

I think the guys that tow for Tigé make a 1.50 to 2.00 / mile. Get good at it and the Govt pays $3.00 to take trailers down to NewOrleans.

When I sold my 23V to a California resident (town outside of LA) the cost of shipping was around 1300.00 I belive. Dont know if that helps but what the heck.

I work on Spring Mtn/Decatur. Boat is slipped at Echo. I leave at 4pm I can get to my boat by 5 and have a solid 2.5 hours of riding in without having to pick the trailer up .
