    340 vs. 360HT

Is it worth the extra money($2,000) for the 360HT on a RZ4? Does any have any experience on a 24ve for comparison?

sure and all I can say is the 340 is sweet..... because the tige is designed so well it doesnt take a ton of horse power for the boat to preform. In my OPINION the 340 is all you need. Better fuel economy and plenty of power. save the 2000 and spend it on ballast..... haha.

That is what I am hoping for.

I think if I felt any slowness out of the whole I would reprop. Does anyone have experience with other props? I believe the RZ4 comes stock with the ACME 537.

All I like to say is... get the biggest motor you can afford

i'm really big on horsepower, but when my dealer tells me that the 340 is more than enough, even when fully loaded, I'm inclined to give it serious consideraton.

Still see if you can demo one of each and decide for yourself.

I think I am the only one on this forum that has the 360HT. I can’t say if it is a huge step up from the 340 since the last engine I came from was a night and day difference (Mercruiser 350 Mag).

I will say that the 360 does not have any problems whatsoever getting up on plane with 1800 pounds of ballast and a 4-5 people on board. In gets on plane in a matter of a few seconds. Overall I am very happy with the performance of this engine. One thing though, this engine is a bit louder than most. Every time someone takes a set behind my boat or whenever I happen to pass someone the first thing the mention is the sound of the engine. I personally like it.

Do consider though that the RZ4 will be a bigger and heavier boat. In my opinion, get the biggest engine you can afford especially if you are going to sack it out.

                Turbonine,

I ordered my RZ4 with the 450Hp 8.1L. Only because I live in Denver and the altitude sucks 20-30% of the power out of the motor. I boat around 6,000ft. I always have 10-12 people on my boat, and I run a lot of weight. We surf a lot so I got the ballast on my RZ4, plus a heavy motor to add weight. I figured that 8.1 would add a couple hundred extra pounds.

It's also my understanding that Marine Power specializes in that 8.1L, and I had a bunch of issues with the 380hp 6.0l that was in my 24ve. I'm probably the only person to special order an 8.1 and I'm sure I'll loose my a@@ when I sell it. If I lived in a lower altitude I would do the 360hp 5.7HO. In my personal opinion, I would stay away from the 6.0L. If tigé didn't allow me to get the 8.1l, I would have gone with the 5.7HO.

I have always stayed aways from the 6.0/6.2 engine from any manufacturer. It seems like they all have the issues. I think I am leaning towards the 360, unless there are some major drawbacks like a vastly higher rate of fuel consumption.

                    Thanks for all the input.

I have the PCM 6.0L in my 05 24V and I have had NADA 0 Zip single problem with the engine. It is great. It it pulls hard. All I do is change the oil regularly and replace fuel filters once a year and I have so far not had a problem. It is a good thing my computer is on a wood desk because I am knocking on it right after I get done typing this message.

"there is no replacement for displacement"

But we have the MP 340, and is a strong pulling motor. I think it's been said here but the prop will make much more impact than anything else in the drive train.

I think a lot of my 6.0 issues had to do with altitude. I've talked with Eddie Albright from Marine Power and Tige about the issues. Most of the 6.0l problems have happened in higher altitude areas.

I think they should stop rating these things by HP and give us some TQ numbers. I know they are related but that is what tow boats really need, torque.

One thing though, this engine is a bit louder than most.
I'm 50/50 on this. In the driver's seat I'm amazed how quiet the 6.0L is. Behind the boat I enjoy how meaty it sounds. There was a Sea Ray with the hull-through exhaust and man am I glad I don't have that. Probably gets a lot of heads to turn but they probably turn back around when they see a 20' Sport Boat.

I put a 350 crate motor in one of the boy scouts 1977 Bayliner they use at there camp. It runs good for a crate motor. It was modified and has through Hull Exhaust. It is loud and alot of people tell me how good it sounds and I laugh because it is only a crate 350 5.7L from GM engine. It works well for its purpose though. I still take my own boat when I go to scout camp for a week with my son.
