I wouldn't say we were off topic. We were talking about gel coats, warranties, and I had this stupid idea that there was a 3 year waranty....

        OK, maybe a little

Had that exact problem on my 1999 2100V Limited. Figured, oh good, no decals right below the fuel port on '06s. Contraire mon fraire, watch out with backsplash while fueling. The fuel will run the length of the gunwale, and find its way to the Tige decal on the back - if you are not aware. Check red line for fuel travel after spilling - one to watch out for.

Yeah, I already lost my back "Tige" decal to fuel running out the vent and around the rub rail and dripping from the rub rail joint. I just realized my 22V decal is curling on the very front edge. My dealer was telling me that he has had to shorten the vent lines on a couple boats because the check-valve needs to be in a straight-up orientation to work best. He attached mine a little differently to the back of the back seat when I had it in for a fuel level sending unit.

I had the same issue... talked w/ Andrew a while back about it, b/c I didn't know what was causing it. He said to wet sand it, and it will fix it. It didn't! But what did fix it was some pretty heavy buffing w/ 3M finesse it! I don't see how the finesse it worked and the wetsanding didn't! Actually the wetsanding probably did more than I really realized now that I think about it.

But hey, I'm up a group buy if it's cheap enough

Rub rails are a pain in the but to replace though

Looks like the same thing that happened to mine. Except I also had a $400.00 protector on the back of my boat to keep the boards from hitting and damaging the gel coat. The TIGE' sitcker survived but the clear protector did not nor did the rub rail. It just looks like crap for a two year old boat. It makes the boat look all worn out and abused.

Have you replaced one before? I hear they are actually very easy to repalce two to three hours tops.

So this may be a dumb question, but as I am about to have my hands on my new 22Ve I really want to know, is there anything to do to prevent this? Like not topping off and filling before you go to the lake to not give the fuel a chance to expand.. or putting a towel under when filling? anything? I don't want my new Tige to look "all worn out and abused"...
If you ain't falling.. you ain't trying hard enough..

Yea when filling up don't top off. And when storing for the winter definatley don't top off. As for me now when I come home from the lake I don't fill up I wait until I am on my way to the lake to fill up and I wait until I am close to the lake before I do so. I think I will problably replace the rub rail just be cause I am that way and I want to know how to do it. Not only that what is the use of buying a $60,000+ boat and then have it look like crap. It can't be all that hard. I think the white part if I remeber right from my factory tour it is rivited on then the screws through the metal I will just drill out the rivets to not expand the fiberglass when removing them.

It's not that they are technically difficult, it's that they like to fight you. The one we did took the better half of the day on 35' baja, including removing the old one.

The one tip I can suggest is have a heat gun readily available or a HOT bucket of water to make the new rail more compliant!

Possible solution to fuel discharge out air vent

I noticed west marine sells a air/fuel seperator that may help resolve the overflow issue with the air vent. Anyone have any experience with the install of these devices? Also, I do understand the fuel will expand and contract under hot and cold temps and want to remind everyone it is probably best not to overfill the tank.

                                fuel/air seperator

If you go to www.westmarine.com and search for a fuel/air seperator you will find the item. Tried to create a link but couldnt get it to work. Sorry, I have had a busy day and am still working.
