    Gas yellowing the trim

Okay, after my new years day trip I filled my boat with gas so it would not sit with and empty tank. Then it got warmmer out side and I was gone. My wife calls me and says my son told her gas was coming out of the fill cap and running down the side of the boat. The next day I get home and the white trim behind the stainless rub rail was all yellow, My decals were melted the TIGE' and the 24V Decal and I can not get the yellowing out of the white trim behind the rub rail. Any ideas. Gas in nasty stuff when not cleaned up.

Just didn't want you to feel alone, I had the same thing happen to me!

I could use this advice too.

I could use some advice also. Mine hasn't did anything to the gelcoat yet but the cover is already turning yellow.... It's only a matter of time.... This might be a question for Tige to answer if they even have an answer for this one. One thing for sure, I am sure it is not warranteed.. Now, I could also be wrong there....

Let me join the club. I used to fill up all the time when I got off the lake so it would be full the next time I used the boat. I filled up 2 years ago and then went to Hawaii for 11 days. That is when Havasu had 8 straight days over 120 . When I got back to the boat it has a nice yellow stain on the nice white gelcoat down the side of my boat, on the rubrail and peeled a few decals..

I was told that the boat needs to be wet sanded to remove it.
        Let it be!!!

I tried to wet sand the rub rail and it cleaned up a little but not much. The gel-coat was okay I caught it in time. I guess I could pull of the rub rail and replace the white piece but TIGE' says I may not want to mess with that. I guess we may want to do a group buy on white rub rail so we can all repalce the crappy yellow peices we now have. Thank you California GAS. Maybe we can get the oil companies to pay for it HAHA. DOMZ might be able to help us I could say it was CONOCO gas. JK.

you got it worse than me then, I have no gel coat issues, just the rubrail.

The melting decals was kind of cool though...I'm easily entertained

Believe me I was not happy. Boat was only 3 months old. Last year i convinced myself it was fading and did not look that bad. When I was working on the boat this year it still is as dark as ever. Oh well!!

This may look like a design issue. Any comments from Tige?

Yea, I purchased new decals and my wife flipped out. I tried not to tell her how much they cost but I never hid money things from her. Her answer was make the boat NAKED if you can't stand the deacals. I guess I could of done what this guy did.

You don't need a Barney mobile. However, I am sure you would like those speakers.

Thinking about this. I know the gelcoat is covered for 3 years????? Or is it just one year???? Would the gas getting under the gelcoat be covered since the gelcoat should be covering the entire boat without anything being allowed to get under it...... Just a thought.

No Gel Coat is covered for one year only. I went through the factory on a tour and learned about that. It makes sense why they cover that for only a year. But the actual Fiberglass structure of your boat is covered for Life. But you will sink your boat before you have and kind of Degradation to your fiberglass and when you sink your boat well it is obviously not covered.

So, if I had a yellowing problem and the boat was less than a year, it would be covered? Not sure if I understand but interesting point.

If the boat sinks, then the insurance will pick it up and then I can get a RZ4... hummmmmmm

I highly doubt Tige' will warrant gelcoat damage due to fuel spillage. The warranty likely covers things like cracking or fading due to stress or sun; or blistering.

BOT, you are going to need to sand the gel to clean up those spots. Go lightly and you will be fine. It will polish right back out.

If you don't want to use sandpaper, then you can probably have good results bu using a marine heavy rubbing compund with a rotary sander/polisher (not an orbital buffer).

                              What does BOT mean?
