Because statements like this "The people I have issues with are the family runabouts that just go out without knowing anything about boating courtesy and just tear around the good water with tubes all day long" make me wonder. I resemble this remark, I love tubing. Does this make me a dangerous or inconsiderate driver? Is tubing "inappropriate". This makes me feel that because I tube, I'm not a knowledgeable, safe, boater, I'm rude, dangerous?
This is a matter of sharing the lake. We all have a right to use and travel the lake with in the laws. Does a boarder that wants "butter" have any more right to the lake than the guy in the bowrider pulling his kids on a tube? Does he have any more right to come tubing into a cove where some boarders are riding.
I've had towboats come into the cove where I am anchored up relaxing and throw a bunch of waves. Does this mean that they know nothing about boating.......no, does it interrupt my quite afternoon........yes. Am I going to flag them down and hand them a booklet and ask them to leave because I was there first........no. They have as much right to be there as I do. If they are driving in a safe a responsable manor, than I'll just have to deal with it.
I don't have a problem with tubing... I too think it can be fun... but I do have a problem when they are tearing up the only good water left on the lake.......IMO tubing is more fun in choppy water.........

What's the difference between a wake boarder wanting space for a ride, and a tuber wanting space to tube?
I'm out on the Delta alot and some guys wakeboarding try to take up the whole channel, cutting back and forth...do they really expect me to pull my 4000lbs boat up against the rocks so there 180lbs *** can cut past me....I think not!!! i have no problem stopping right in the middle of the channel and letting them go around me...guess that is inconsiderate....oh well!!!!!!!!!

Ok so at the risk of being a "jerk" i'll throw my two cents worth in here as we're having a spirited debate. I bought the boat for family fun, but i can't wakeboard, waterski or kneeboard because my knees are so screwed up it's not even funny. Other family members can and do. I can't wakesurf because my boat doesn't throw a big enough wake. I have kids and grandkids that enjoy a wide range of watersports to include tubing. I enjoy tubing because it's ALL i can do.
I try to be considerate of everyone while on the water, but i'll be a SOB if i'm gonna drag my 5 & 6 year old grandsons through serious chop! It ain't gonna happen! Or how about the apprehensive people/newbies that wanna try tubing? Ya gonna chop 'em? I think not, not unless you don't care about their experience. So what to do, not let them tube? I think not. To that end i try and stay away from the main 'boarding spots but sometimes stuff happens, oh like a boarder comes into a cove as i'm taking off and the driver starts screaming at me! and then chases me to yell more and threaten me when i've young children in the boat! I won't even relay to y'all what i did at that point. I definately think he'll think again before he does that one to anyone else, Kiss my _ _ _ swampy!
The water is a public domain and no one group has any right to it any more than the other. And if sports conflict, so be it. We all have to get along or the law steps in and makes sure we do. Like some lakes that have days for boats and others for PWC's. I don't think anyone wants that. Now idiots are a whole nuther post!"Call me anything you want ... Just don't call me NOBODY!

Seriously, it's the people who are oblivious to what's going on around them that scare me. True stories:
1. I was pulling a bunch of kids around on a tube and one of the smaller ones fell off. Now keep in mind that we're on a 23,000 acre lake and there's literally 3 boats out and none where I was. A jet skier nearly landed on the kid as they attempted to jump my wake right after the kid fell off. Then they got indignant with me when I pulled them over to lecture them about their stupidity. I ended up following them home to their hosts (they were guests) and let them know what had happened and if they didn't stop, I was calling the game warden to report them. Around here that will get you a big fat ticket.
2. My wife was pulling me skiing and I was skiing in a cove on Lake Travis when some moron actually drove his boat between my boat and me. I had to throw the rope at the boat to avoid decapitating this moron and his family. The guy actually had the nerve to come over and yell at my wife for driving erratically (we were going in a straight line when he turned into us). I had to swim to the boat to break up the argument and reported him to the game warden. It took me a long time to convince my wife to drive the boat with me behind it after that.Cursed by a fortune cookie: "Your principles mean more to you than any money or success."

I know what you mean Dog,
We were swapping out tube riders when woman driving a boat and pulling her hubby/bf on a tube (no mirror, no spotter, must have one or the other) she passes behind my boat about 20 feet from my swimmers and then makes a hard turn and circles my boat, still at about 20 feet away. Well, when she cranked the wheel to circle my boat, the tube stopped its forward movement and the rope started to come across my boat full of guest. The whole time I am screaming at her to stop, slow down, cut the throttle, something but she just stared at me with this look of non-comprehension. the towrope ended up pinching me and a guest up against the gunwale. It was all I could do to hold it enough so my wife's friend could get her legs over top of it.
To make a short story long, we wrote down their numbers and called 911. An off-duty wildlife dude saw the whole thing and gave them a tongue lashing and told the that they needed to return to the ramp and get off the water NOW.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More
