Yeah it almost eliminates spillage....you can pump at full speed.....
I bet you all know this but the fuel tank vent is in the front of the tank, so when the boat is angled bow down the vent isnt venting properly, which can sometimes cause back pressure and then voila, you get a fuel shower....
Definitely open both caps if you have them....

I had this problem with our 2300V and also has a fuel smell in the port side compartment in front of the passenger. The smell was coming form a leaking fuel/air seperator that is located within a few feet of the vent on the side of the boat. I relpaced the leaking unit with a much larger one, LG-100, and the problem never happened again. I still listen for the gurgling of the fuel as I fill and our 05 24V has the small one like our 2300V. Spilling fuel in a waterway is a big time fine if you get caught.
