    Custom Boat Cover???

Just got done talking to Ken over at Permatop. He tells me that he will make a custom cover for my boat including the tower cutouts etc for about $600 bux. Material is a 60-40 mix of poly cotton.

I asked him about the sunbrella material, which he would also use if I wanted him to, and he really steered me towards this stuff. He says that the sunbrella weave will loosen up after about a year or so or towing, and start to fade, whereas this stuff will not. He wanted to make it clear that he is not against Sunbrella, he does a lot of covers with it because of the colors you can get. The sunbrella costs a little more, but said it was negligible.

Apparently this poly-cotton fabric actually shrinks about 2%, which tends to make it fit real snug on the boat.

What do you guys think?? Is he giving me a line of BS, or is this really the case with sunbrella? Should I pay the extra? 600 is a pretty good price for a custom cover.

I'd be concerned with how much the poly-cotton 'breathes', because a tight fitting non-venting cover will encourage mold growth. Sunbrella is pretty well proven not to do that.

        Ambivalent? Yes. Or Not.

Waterproof, light weight, five year warranty, non fading, non stretching, 100 colors, strong enough to tow with on the boat....

I had one made with Sunbrella and have 2 seasons on it where it sits in a slip in the sun all day, no fading, and no stretching, and no leaking! When I tow I use the Tige factory shark skin cover though so I can't help you with how sunbrella holds up while towing. Mine I had done as a two piece snap on and was about 700 with all the snaps and such, and that was for a 24v. Good luck, but I would stick with a name you know like sunbrella.

For what its worth, there would be at least one vent, and I might have him put in a flap in the back for the occasional fan if the boat is wet when I cover it up.

Anyone have any experience with towing with a Sunbrella cover? How does it last?
