Samson Towers - Is this it?

One of the many hair-brained ideas I have gotten was just replacing the thing I like least about my boat and not spending oodles on a new one. My metcraft tower is pretty solid, but whoever designed the board racks needs to be castrated. They are 8 feet off the floor, and at 6'9" tall, even I find it difficult to get boards in and out. If you stand on the side of the boat, and if you are 5"9" or better, you can barely do it. I have had a friend fall in the lake once trying to put a board in.

I have always admired this tower and thought it was made by Samson sports. At www.samsonsports.com the towers look like they are from 2001. Aren't they the makers of the tower I am talking about? The racks are located on the side, and the tower drops easily as well.

It seems they haven't updated that site in years, but ya, that's a Samson. I hear excelent things about it. Sparky has one.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Couldn't you mount board racks on the side support posts of your tower?

I like the rustic look of the partical board garage, but just doesn't go with the stucco JK Talltigeguy, looks like a killer addition.

anyway, like Dog said, look for some new racks, pr a new tower at the most

I second or third or whatever number we're at to just buying some Monster Tower racks and mounting to the side tube. It would be a lot more economical.

Right company and site forsure. Wow- they do need a update...

The tower is awesome! I love mine, easy up and easy down. board racks are super smooth while loaded and I really like the option of the quick release speakers.

Here are some pics from our 1st day out last week. as it happens I have a few of the tower

Before I get ragged on for not having boards in the racks.... the water was in the low 50's and we were not going to board this day.. this was actually our water test with our dealer so it was pretty short ( just checked everything out and practiced docking and loading)

I will start a new thread with more pics of the day

Hmm...weird that they have none of their new racks on the site. I too have a Sampson, well about everyone in the Northwest has one because Stayton Motor Sports puts them on the Tige's as the standard tower. I'd just call them and ask for a cataloge. My only complaint is I do not have enough rack space, we always have boards laying around. I heard at the PDX Boat Show that Sampson is making a rack/basket to go on top of the tower, like a cargo carrier for a car, for additional storage. I'm interested to see how this will look.
I have no complaints with the tower, it may not be the sexiest in the bunch but it is very functional and solid. I will agree with dog and evil, why don't you just add some rack to the side of your current tower? Or is all that mulaha burning a hole in your pocket!!!!

Some of the after-market tower manufacturers clearly never loaded boards in or out of their fixed position racks. I have a similar issue w/my Wake Designs tower - they welded the rack at the mid-point of one of the horizontal bars (for aesthetics, I guess) - it should be mounted all the way aft on the bar for easier use.

I also have Monster Racks on both sides of the tower, mounted in a convenient location for a total of eight boards - the Monster Racks are the ones that everyone uses first.

FYI, I think tower on Sparky's boat looks Sweet - I like the sweeping curve on the lower bar...

I am in the same boat as Talltigeguy. I was to cheap to get the Samson Tower as it would have required ordering my boat and the dealer gave me a killer deal on the boat he had in stock. We do not carry all that many boards but it is still a pain. I just ordered the Dbot5 surf rack which will hold the Inland Surfer red and my 147. Thinking about getting a monster rack for the other side. Cant justify a new tower and bimini at this time - nor a new boat as I will have 2 college kids in the fall.
                      Let it be!!!

Nice tower, dude! Do those board racks swivel?

Sparky and myself have the same exact towers, can you see my pics? it clearly shows how the racks rotate.

I have three words for you, "X" "Plo" "Sion" I like the Sampson tower as well but for me I like the swooping design of the Xplosion and am not a huge fan of the billets on the slide blocking my views of beautiful Lake Powell canyons. The Xplosion racks swivel and pull put one pin and they easily come off for tight garage spaces. You can mount the racks anywhere you want on the tower. For me getting a new tower felt like getting a new boat. Go for a new tower. Let me know if you need further help spending your money!

I would probably then be out another 700 bones for a bimini, right?

Would anyone buy my old tower and bimini? How much would that be worth? or just send it to the metal recyclers for $50?

You guys are thinking way too practical to just tell me to get a new board rack, when for just 10 times that I can have an all new tower!

Chpthrill, I had to buy the boat before the garage was finished or else I would not have had enough left over to get the boat. Priorities.
