If you look at what the pylon is attached to you will see it is a piece of fiberglass. I will grab a couple of shots of other boats. They connect the pylon to major metal structures so can pull tubes.

Tige's are relegated to connecting tubes to the lifting rings. If you got the RZ you are out of luck since the lifting rings are below the swim deck.

I towed all our Australia summer from the pylon 07 22ve after discussing with national Tige importer. He assures me the pylon is reinforced and strong enough. He however tows from the tower as gets better air. he says less likely to submerge due to higher tow point.

My sons like to hammer the 3 person tube and all big boys with three all up together over 300kg ( 660lbs) and no problems even at wips and 30 plus knots. No sign of any movement or cracking or hazing.

Would be nice to be retractable. Really the only major negative on the boat.

As the manual is no differnat ( still useless) to my prev 3 yo 20i I have found no warning.

Your fiberglass crossbar is 3-4 inches thick? Do you mean wide, not thick? Mine feels like it may be 3/4 inch thick at the most. I have been told that there is aluminum fiberglassed in there as well to strengthen the pylon.

Nonetheless, It has a big sticker on it that says: 'One skier only' or something like that. It has been nearly 3 years, but I thought there was a no tube sticker on there when I first bought it.

I am pretty stupid to not realize what F/G was, LOL

Boy, did underestimate the thickness of the fiber glass cross support that the ski pylon bolts to. Maybe it's not as strong as I thought.

Total thickness = 1 1/8" and no metal/alum. brase glassed in.

Tige need to fix this short coming RIGHT NOW. Come up with a retro kit and I will buy. in the mean time, I need to figure out how to reinforce.

Why don't you drill a hole just lateral to the pylon hole to see if you can find the reinforcement? I would like to see it.

1 1/8 is pretty thick, thicker than the hull itself, but I still feel the nature of fiberglass is that it will not stand up to tube pressure forever, or if the tube takes a dive.

I will talk with my dealer Tuesday and see if there is a retrofit available or if he is aware of issue. I think he had an 06 20V and I have talked to him about other mods already so the question is free

I guess you don't have gel coat cracks around it yet? I don't either, but I have tired of the harness on the back tow hooks, so I am just putting tubes on the pylon, it is just a matter of time before it cracks.

That pylon is made for little girls.
I find this new thread real interesting. I put up thread regarding how many skiers a 2007 20V could tow and after voicing my opinion I was told that I was being ridiculous. It seems I am not the only one concerned about the "pansy pylon" .

There used to be a day when Tige's had an extremely strong sky pylon. This isn't the best picture, but you can see that my post hooks on to a sturdy metal frame that then hooks onto the engine mounts.

Oh, come on now, no one said you were being ridiculous. Over-reacting maybe J/K, Just some fellow Tige owners trying give you some reinsurance that you bought one of the best built boats on the market. And yes, there are others that have this same pylon concern as you, don't know where they are, but they have posted their fears in other threads. Use the "search" button @ the top and you will see this is a hot topic. I too became concerned, so I removed the pylon just to see for my self (those are my pics) and found the cross member to be thinner then I first believed. But I still believe it to be stronger then most give it credit.

Good looking boats by the way You will enjoy it

I don't expect you to search the # of skiers thread but yes I was called ridiculous. As good as a Tige is built does nothing to alleviate my concern over what seems to be an under engineered pylon. I will not tow from the lift hooks because the harness and rope will snag on the platform. you would think with how much Tige touts dual performance with TAPS2 that you could actually push the boat skying. Bad assumption on my part The only good thing I can get from these posts re: the pylon is no one who has contributed to the two active threads has reported that theirs has failed for what that is worth.

The color scheme of my Tige was a dealer spec boat but I agree it looks good.

I did search before I posted, but that's ok, I had nothing better to do today

I have searched the forum far and wide, and of the 114,458 posts (give or take 20 posts while I was typing this ) I cant find anyone that has actually seen a failure.

The more you are on this site, you will find the the members here are a great bunch of people. This is a good hearted group that is always willing to lend a hand and offer some advise or answer a question. We do like to joke around also, so don't take anything personal, as this site does not treat members the way other towboat sites do. So if someone here says "don't get yer panties in a wad" or "quityerbitch'n" it was all in jest, so I'm sorry if you didn't take it that way.

*EDIT* we have 4092 members too

I have faith in my pylon

Many people have come close to getting hurt on it in my 22ve. I don’t do any skiing so I am looking at removing it and finding someone to develop a flat plate to bolt on instead.

I understand your complaint is it needs to be stronger. My thoughts are it needs to be stronger and adjustable (Pop-up) like almost all the other WB Boats around.
This all adds up to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I tow tubes from the back handle on my boat and it works great. the tubes get a huge swing as the rope runs back and forth on the handle. I use the pylon all the time when water skiing and have never had a problem. I wiegh 200 lbs on average in the summer I might make it to 190.

TIGE' is a good boat for the money. If they start to change things around it is going to cost more for the newer ones. I agree the pylon is a little weak but I am not affraid to use it. That is what it is there for. When I winterize I check everything for loose nuts and bolts and I do the same before the first trip to the lake each year and mid year. The pylon will hold up as long as you keep things tight. There is so much flexing, bending, and twisting in boats that stuff is bound to come loose and that is when things start to break.

I found a 1 inch gel coat crack next to my pylon a month ago. It is just a tiny gel coat crack, not anything structural, but nonetheless, I am concerned about it. I have never tightened the bolt, but to pull hard on it with my bare hands, it does not move. I will tighten it and see what I get.

I am probably the most vocal of folks about the pylon, and have a friend who found one that was bent up and fiberglass shards were showing, so I know it has happened. My friend took a pic and then it got deleted, so there has never been first hand evidence on this site about anyone who has had a real failure with the pylon. My buddy has a 24Ve he just bought from his brother, and he has gel coat cracks around it in several locations. The funny thing is, he called his brother and asked about it and his brother started to tell him it was impossible because the pylon bolted down into the stringers, yada yada. Like most people, he didn't even realize how the pylon was mounted.

Mine has a sticker on it that says not to pull more than 1 skier.

I hope no one has called anyone ridiculous on the site. We try to remain civil for the most part, and I think I would still return to the site often, despite one time someone was having PMS. It is winter and we all are going through withdrawals a bit. So please forgive.

Tall don't pull to hard or you will have a lot of Gel Coat Cracks. DOMSZ06 did that on his deck bolts and it cracked all the gel coat around his deck mounts. Gel Coat is kinda like glass.

If I can't pull on the pylon with my wiry long arms, then what is a tube going to do to it? Or if I get good leverage like a skier could do?

I am sure DOM is much stronger than any ordinary man.

The swim deck platform mount that is bolted to the boat to mount the swim deck.
