I'm going to be taking the boat to Tower Bimini's soon and am undecided whether to go with a black or red bimini. I'm wondering if the black would be hotter underneath? Never had a dark colored one so i'm clueless on this one.

I once read an article in a backpacking mag about whether dark colors made the wearer hotter or not. They found no real differance between the lights and darks as far as heat, but found the darks might block more UV's.

The darker the color the more shade you will get underneath. It will not get hotter. Black or Red there might be a small difference but nothing that you would notice. Black to a light gray or white you would notice less shade.Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.

Good that's what i was looking for. I know that the UV experts say you actually get more UV's wearing lighter colors than dark. I'm looking for more shade as it can get brutally hot here. Shasta last year was at 113-118 the week before we were there and I'm NOT looking for a repeat of that without some serious shade!"Call me anything you want ... Just don't call me NOBODY!

My friend has a black bimini and I don't feel it is any warmer underneath his than mine, blue. The only thing I remember in the post about the guy that had problems with his tower cover is that the black thread wears out faster. I don't remember the full truth to it, but I remember the statement.
