Teak Lovers ... ever thought about this?

Any of you guys ever thought about making a platform out of any of the synthetic decking materials? You'd eliminate the maintenance and have the look of your teak platform. (Sort of). Just a random thought that popped into my head.

I dunno. all of the stuff I've seen looks "grainy". Maybe I haven't looked lately though.

For some it might work but for me, the whole reason that I like teak is that you can sand out the scratches and make the platform look like new. Otherwise, I would just go for the Fiberglass platform. Creative thinking however.

How about a vinyl wrap on the fiberglass area that looks like teak?

I would have to say no. To me, it would still be a plastic deck and wouldn't feel like a teak deck when you are standing on it. Like I said before, the maintenance isn't annoying to me, so why fix something if it isn't broken?

I've seen a couple guys do this. It looks ok. The span of the platform has to be braced a bit, as the flex of most of the Trex type products is less than the width of the platform, and they will bend quite a bit. Especially with a big guy on it.
You'd have to add a center brace.

I think they look kind of.....weird (my good term for it)

I spend more time wiping down my boat than I do maintaining my teak platform. There's always something to do when keeping your boat in tip-top shape. That said, it really doesn't take all that much time.

There's no such thing as a no-maintenance boat

There's no replacement for a great looking, well cared for teak deck. Keep the teak.....

It is the fun in owning it. The not so fun part is hiding it from the HOA when you're trying to do some of the routine maintenance you can't do at a storage yard. It's the nicest lawn ornament in the neighborhood (according to me and my neighbors) and the security still leaves me stickers on my trailer .

                    Or get this clip http://www.frontiernet.net/~momkrm/wavs/respect.wav

and play it at unreasonable volume when the are around.

                    Not constructive, but fun!

I guess I am not as lucky as you guys. We don't have an association since we are zoned SB1 (suburban ranch).

As you get older you realize it's better to have others do the dirty work for you

One of my favorite movie scenes is from Ruthless People in the parking lot....

But what did that have to do with the price of Teak at your Tige dealer?
