NADA = 15,600 w/no options and $20,500 w/typical options.


212 hrs is not too bad for a 98. With out knowing any of the options, 16,900 sounds like a pretty good price if the boat looks to be in good condition and all mechanicals and electricals work. Does that include trailer?

Does it/did it have a tower and you are looking to upgrade or just never had one? There are probably 3 or 4 tower makers that are well liked by other owners here and I'm sure they will chime in and tell you why they chose thier tower.

I have the 1997 2150 which is very similar. Mine is in excellent shape and I paid 16k for it. My guess is that with 212 hours on it, its probably in pretty good shape. But make sure you drive it, make sure you are standing there when it gets started cold.

I put a Monster tower on mine, and love it. As SP said there are others as well. You can always look for signs of abuse, like what does the underside of the hull look like, especially where it the bow would hit sand if its been beached. Look at the prop, how clean is the engine, bilge console etc etc.

Most popular towers are Monster, Swoop XT, and Phat Budde. The Phat Budde looks the best IMO, but you can do a Monster, a bimini, and a stereo for the same price. I have a 97 2002, kinda similar boat, and I love mine too. I have had to refirb it as I only gave 11,500 for it and it needed TLC. I think Razzman got the best deal on the OBS (old body style) boats.

Does it have the factory Skylon? If so you can get between $200-$350 for it on ebay depending on who is looking. I sold mine for $250.

The VDO guages on those are trash. You will want to see if they are cracking, and plan on replacing. Also if it is a Marine Power engine, the bracket mount for the Jabsco style pump is a POS.....plan on replacing it. My steering, cables, linkages, etc etc are all in good shape, and my boat was not the best maintained. The alternator on the older boats is a little underpowered, but it is also an easy upgrade. Be gentle on grading the hull, it is 10 years old after all. Be sure to check the condition of the gelcoat, and you will get the best "discount" on it. A little elbow grease and you can have it looking new. Your vent hose will likely be going dry, and the vinyl will probably be getting stiff and old.

These boats are VERY well built.....just ask my dremel and jigsaw. All the wood used for vertical or horizontal interior is 3/4" fiber treated type pine. it is like cutting steel. The fiberglass is also very thick. Where I have had to cut pieces out, I have always had at leas 3/8" or more. 1/2" or more in the main body. The only thing I do not like is that there are no floor lockers when there is obviously the room to have them. i have thought about trying to add some, but I wouldn't know where to start. I need a rover camera to have a look.

BTW, I asked Andrew (Tige) about that on mine, granted it's a V-Drive. He told me there are stringers that would get in the way. If you have questions, he can probably help you.

I'd say that's a pretty good price considering the hours on it. 212 aint much at all. My 2000 (last year of that build process, wood stringers) has nearly 400 and we are weekend warriors for the most part. For that year of towboat, Tiges were by far the best built boat on the market. That was why I bought one and it's still as solid as the day it was new. Give the bottom of it a real good once over. Inspect the running gear for alignment and dings, make sure nothing is bent and check to see if there are any major scratches on the bottom of the hull itself. If that stuff checks out good, see if you can take it for a ride to make sure it runs and drives well. Everything else is secondary and can be replaced or refurbished.

I sold my 1997 Pre 2100 WT in Novemeber for 22.5K (canadian), it had a monster tower and only 85 hours on a new engine. Its was a great boat and I think it was worth more...

That boat is built like a tank. One thing I gotta say about my '99 is that everything is over-engineered. That's a great price. I would have it checked out by a local Tige dealer or, if one isn't nearby, a local mechanic you trust.

I haven't seen it in person yet, but the condition in the pics look very good, but we all know how that goes, can be a whole different boat in person.

I'm in NH, so it'll be a few weeks min before the boat can be dropped in the water, lakes are still frozen over here.

It doesn't have a tower, but I'd want to add one.
