CA,CO,& AZ have Problems with water Ways

Here is a link to tell you about the Qugga Mussel Problems that we are faced with. http://www.dfg.ca.gov/news/news07/07007.html CA is big time worried. I received a letter in the mail yesterday telling me about it from the State of California. This could really cause problems for the Aqueduct and Delta. I don't think I will be taking my boat to these locations. I don't want any of the problems.

It's been said a few times already, but how dare you leave NV out of this.

Sorry I did not mean to leave NV out of this. I guess TIGE will be making a bunch of money now. Everyone will be trading in there boats and getting sealed cooling systems.

can't you just put a seawater filter on it?

Or just drain your system after every use?

The problem is they say they are microscopic when ingested so a sea strainer would have no effect right? Great so small you can't even see it then thet grow to about 1"! Guess i'm not boating where they are, don't need the hassles!

well, if we can filter oil to .3 microns, can't we filter water the same way? There has to be a way.

Yah, but we would still have a raw water pickup for the heat exchange

Maybe I am retarded, but I think that none of us are going to have problems with mussels in our engines unless we leave the boat in the water for months at a time. I think that even though there are parts of the engine that never drain, the environment is all wrong to make them grow.

The only problem I see is someone having a cow if I go out of the area, when they find out that I have been in Lake Mead.

Frankly, the western United States is hosed. Any attempts at stopping spread are futile. The only way to do it would be a complete ban on anyone who has been in an affected waterway. That is not going to happen, even if it did, there would be lawbreakers who do it anyway. Maybe Chlorox the entire boat?

I can never get my ballast bags entirely empty, won't I be likely to suck up a few larva and then when I fill them up at the next lake I will spit out the larva there?

                  1) Doubt it, but I'm sure some would question it
                  2) Right now they have not been found on the Overton arm where you normally boat at on Lake Mead.

It is only a matter of time before they are in the Overton arm, I am sure.

They are in Lake Havasu. They just have not made it to the AZ side yet. They have so far only been found in the CA side. It is just a matter of time.

We have similar problems with Hydrilla. It's taken over Lake Austin and I'm sure it's just a matter of time before it spreads to other lakes. Nasty stuff.

The current must be to strong for them to make it across.
