It's always been that way and always will be in California, it's called supply and demand. As long as we need it and are willing to pay it then it will stay that way. When people are willing to stand up to the oil companies then maybe something can be done, but Californians are sheep and anything that affects or interupts their lifestyle they couldn't be bothered with, including doing something about it

California does lead the way in polution and polution control, someone has to pay for that. Where does CA fall as far as state gas tax compaired to the rest of the US? If you did the same map showing realestate values, I bet it would look very similar.

I know we are screwed when we pay more on average than Hawaii. Nothing like having oil in our own state that we don't use for ourselves.

We ship refined products to other states so why are they paying so much less for the same product?

Not just having it....but having buckets of it.....especially in the central coast and northern coast regions......so much of it it washes up on the beaches from natural seepage.

Pismo got its name from the "tar" that would wash up on the beach; named by the native Chumash Indians who used to observe the phenom.

We pay more for produce than you. Especially citrus and wintertime lettuces and tomatoes which grow year round there.

The same can be said for the produce. Most of the fertilizer you use comes from here. Plus supply and demand.....there's a ton of people living over there. The way I see it, my fuel should be free as I live on top of reserves, but alas it isn't.

That map is interesting. It shows TX is cheaper than us, but everytime I go there (which is quite often) I pay $.05-$.10 more that my state. No matter where I'm at there.

Go figure. The Prez and all his oil buddies are from Texas, Cheney and his oil buddies are from Wyoming. Two of the cheapest states to buy gas in the country. Go figure. Not trying to start a debate here, but Gas prices were fine till Bush got in office.

Actually, that chart is not inflation adjusted. The prices in the 80's were the highest ever. Adjusted would be in the ballpark of 3.80 gallon average.

There is a little grey line on there that says adjusted for inflation.

I see it now. See the pricing around the 80's....that's the highest gasoline has ever been.
